Seriously, I think it was very big of you to say that, considering Gabs wasn't always your favorite character. It seems you do regard X&G as a pair -- partners in whatever way you like. That's a long way from how some of us (including me) saw it in the beginning -- Xena as the lone warrior, with Gabs as a questionably "necessary" nuisance. This suggests that, in the end, it truly did become a story about two people, not just one. I know that's how I see it now, which is a far cry from my initial view. Now, it's hard to imagine Xena up there in the stars without Gabs. - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Bugger! Missed them. :P Tim was also on the season premeire of The O.C. and Charles will be joining Crossing Jordan as Jordan's new love interest. BATTLE ON XENA! Temporary names - but I can't even imagine how far Lucy and Renee's jaws dropped when first Xena then Gabrielle came around. I mean, that's a bit of an achievement. ;) I'm sure they're all having a laugh about it, as unreal as it seems. And we all know their nicknames will probably stick forever, coz even 5 1/2 years after the show's over, people are still talking about Xena in books, magazines, TV, movies, she's still everywhere. Clearly people are still enamored of the idea of the Warrior Princess. And this guy that found the planet and its moon being such a big XWP fan, well, I say that's a bit of fate and destiny, the never-separate-duo, XWP-style. Just like that one episode KT likes so much... what's it called... umm... something about colliding... Sure, we'll have nicely proper Greco-Romano monikers at some point, but isn't this a cool thing, and a fitting tribute now. :) S. ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Robert Zemeckis is to direct Beowulf, for 2007, with Roy Winstone as Beowulf. Winstone, a favorite of mine, has played a lot of tough guys, including Will Scarlet in the Robin of Sherwood series 20 years ago, and Henry VIII in a Masterpiece Theatre short series, with Helena Bonham Carter as Anne Boleyn. The Zemeckis film also is supposed to have Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Robin Wright Penn (of the Princess Bride) and Crispin Glover, as Grendel. Internet Movie Database also lists 2 small films for 2005 -- Beowulf and Grendel, and Beowulf, Prince of the Geats. An article in Variety, Sept. 26, p. 74, notes that while King Arthur, Kingdom of Heaven and Alexander did poorly in the U.S., the three films made almost $450,000,000 in foreign markets, so studios are still interested in historical topics. The article mentions the Zemeckis Beowulf and also says "there are no fewer than four projects in development based on Boudica." I can't find anything about these "projects" on IMDB yet. The entries include important people in TV, as well as important shows. It's not too bad that they have two pages on Xena. The article is written by Sharon Marie Ross. It is mostly descriptive, with info on a few episodes -- A Day in the Life, You Are There, Here She Comes, Miss Amphipolis, Bitter Suite and Friend in Need. Ross writes, "What sustained Xena as a hit (the series has a remarkable following on the Internet and generated a profit-generating convention-going circuit) was the intense and ambiguous relationship that developed betwen Xena and Gabrielle. ... Xena's remarkable success in no small measure paved the way for later action series featuring women. Shows such as La Femme Nikita, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dark Angel and Alias are part of a lineage that owes much to Xena: Warrior Princess." The article has references to articles in the Encyclopedia on Buffy and La Femme Nikita. There is also a "further reading" list with only three entries-- whoosh.org, Weinbrot's book and Ross's "forthcoming" Ph.D disseretation (Univ. of Texas at Austin) "Funny Fantasies: Extraordinary Female Friendships in Television in the 1990s."
