Okay, so Canada turned 138 this year. Yeah, and? I just live here, who cares? Today, for the first time, I have to say, I am really proud to be Canadian. What changed? On June 30th, Canada became the third country in the world to legalize gay marriage. We have always been a country about human rights and equal treatment for all, and, finally, we are putting law where our mouth is and proving that we don't just think this way - we ACT this way. Gay couples can now legally wed in Canada, with all the rights and privileges that this legal bond allows. It provides protection for children, life insurance to spouses, and many other things that couples can only have if legally joined. Sure, this momentous day was met with hostility by many, and threats of reversal is possible, but, guess what, it's near impossible to put the genie back in the bottle. So, today I can be doubly proud. Holland is one of the other three countries to legalize gay marriage, and I am half dutch, and now, the land I call home has extended the same freedoms. Truly, today, I can say, I'm proud to be Canadian! BATTLE ON XENA! Well, that name did not yet exist. ;) Been calling myself that since I was 19, and I was moved out by then. ;) >>I only wear jeans. That's it. Nothing else. Only and always jeans. ;) >> >Bet they loved that too. "Honey, even Xena wears a skirt. Too short, of course, but she does >wear longer -- and *different* -- outfits sometimes. No way in hell I would EVER wear a dress or a skirt. Nope, nope, never. >>"Time to put you out of my misery." - Livia "Eve" > Hey! That's not directed to anyone in particular, is it? *coughs* No comment. ;) BATTLE ON XENA!
