Hitchcock did it in 'Rope', I think, and Josh was trying to see if he could improve on it - that is, hide the cuts better. Anyway, having seen it, you'll (probably) be able to remember if I'm right about that. I hadn't realised Jeremy Roberts was in it - I think he died a short while ago. But I have a great regard for his acting abilities - he was the flaky Thersites (the assassin) in Fistful of Dinars, he was (of course!!) the creepy Aidan in Paradise Found, he was the runaway prisoner who Herc caught and who turned out to have a conscience in Mercenary (I think), and of course the demonic villain Xerxos in Be Deviled (and again, evil though Xerxos was, he had an interesting and very commendable motive - I won't spoil it, watch Be Deviled if you want to see. Four characters so different I never realised they were all the same actor till I looked them up. I must try and see it. Thanks for the recommendation, Cheryl. By the way, I strongly recommend 'Double Dare' if anyone gets the chance to see that - an excellent doco woven around Zoe Bell (Xena doouble) and Jeannie Epper (Wonder Woman). I've had the pleasure of interviewing Jeremy and he's a really nice guy. He did have a heart attack in 2004 (might have been 2003), but he did not die. You can even catch him in "Herbie: Fully Loaded" next. >But I have a great regard for his acting abilities - he was the flaky Thersites, Aidan, the >runaway prisoner and Xerxos. And for you Buffy fans he was the great big vampire that appeared in Faith's first episode. He's also been on X-Files, Star Trek and can currently be seen as the mean boss in that....twix? commerical. I can't remember the candy. The guy makes a little paper figure and talks like his boss who then walks in - the boss is Jeremy. >By the way, I strongly recommend 'Double Dare' if anyone gets the chance to see that Don't tease me. Soon, soon, soon. It comes out on DVD tomorrow. I am quite looking forward to it. BATTLE ON XENA! Correct. "only"? Four seasons is a lot, especially with the ratings it was getting! Yikes. >but I believe they stopped being listed as executive producers sometime around season 3. They >definitely have not been listed for season 4. As I said before, they are not totally out of the >picture, just that they don't exec produce. REEEEEEEEEEEALLY? You know, I didn't notice that. Those two did a LOT for Alias. Maybe them leaving as co-exs is the reason the series went down the crapper this year. Season four was just god awful! Even the return of Irina was horrible. The ONLY episode I liked ALL year was Lena's FIRST episode back (the ep right before the finale), but I was so bored with the finale and they totally RUINED Irina (WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! - my FAVOURITE Alias character). Only the one Irina episode and the last 30 seconds of the season were worth watching at all. Oh, I like - Gina Torres was also great to watch, but, again, not nearly as well written as the season one Anna. But, yeah, I'll be getting the DVDs. Can't have an unfinished collection, but, honestly, if Alias is that bad in season five, I may just have to let it go.... BATTLE ON XENA! BRUCE CAMPBELL BOOK SIGNING Sunday, June 26, 2005 I knew Bruce Campbell was writing another book, but when you hear about something and then months go by, it kind of falls to the back of your brain. I was then vaguely aware of the title at some point and it certainly was on my list of books I wanted to pick up. Then, last week, my friend, Emily rings me up and tells me Bruce Campbell will be on town signing his book. Oh, saweet! Arriving at the Chapters book store, Bruce Campbells appearance was well flaunted everywhere. From the billboard outside, to the staff all wearing, Make Love Staff a mammoth wall of Bruces book to the little autograph ticket stubs: Congratulations! Youre #151 in line to Make Love! clearly this was a big event for the store. I know this location also hosted a book signing with Bruce for If Chins Could Kill but its not like these things are advertised unless you happen to be walking by the building, so I missed that one, hence, I didnt know what to expect here. Up the stairs to the third floor, I had arrived an hour early, and found a large mass of people already there (150 to be exact, according to my ticket) and, to my surprise, a little stage was set up with a podium and microphone. Hes SPEAKING!? Damn, damn, damn! I didnt KNOW that! I didnt bring a notebook and pen! ARG! I also saw people with many items besides Bruces book, and, drat, I figured he would ONLY be signing his book (hed sign as many copies as you had whoo, because I needed to pick up for friends), so I brought nothing but my camera. Oh, how I WISH I had brought my Evil Dead DVD designed like the Book of the Dead, because it would have made MUCH more sense after a few unexpected guests showed up and were also signing autographs (instead, they got to sign Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way which makes no sense at all. I mean, even if I had a If Chins Could Kill Book it would make sense because some of their movies were mentioned there arg, arg, arg). Anyway, all the seats were already filled, and wed now arrived at standing room only. And about 350 (according to staff) fans had showed up. My goodness, I think thats more fans then those that attended Creations Xena convention in Seattle last month (course, I dont believe this event had limited seating, er, tickets. What, you want to spend money here today? SURE!) So Bruce came out to the screams of fans (which consisted largely of Evil Dead fans, not Xenites, if the shirts and Evil Dead videos and DVDs were any indication). Bruce, in typical Bruce fashion took questions and answered them all with humour and some insults, to the roaring approval of the fans. Unfortunately, as I mentioned, I did not bring a notebook to write in, so, heres the few things I remember: Right off the bat he pretty much said there would never be an Evil Dead IV; stop asking. He was asked about his favourite movie, and, sorry, I didnt even catch the title, but he said, It has a score, not a soundtrack and said how it was written for older people, not 17-year-olds. He then commented, Yeah, because Im so eager to rush out and see Bewitched or The Honeymooners remake. I used to be embarrassed by B-movies, but not anymore. A movie about a guy bitten by a radio-active spider is a B-movie. A movie about a man dressed as a bat is a B-movie. Pretty much, the B-movie concept has become main stream and A-movies are overrated. He also encouraged everyone to continue to support other forms of media (ie: B-movies) because that is what gets them made. When asked which of the two Raimi brothers was smarter (to which I muttered, Uh, theres THREE) he said he would guess the one with the most money, so Sam. I didnt hear the question, but it was regarding fans, to which Bruce said that fans rule, otherwise his book would not be a New York Times best seller and then commented, I dont care what you have pierced. A woman (with piercing) cheered. Bruce looked at her and said, Yeah, all right collar lady. Ruff. Ruff. Ill take you for a walk later. He was asked if shooting Army of Darkness was fun. No. Why? He then commented on all the stuff Sam did to him like wearing the stretched face, or being tossed around or playing Evil Ash, and so on. Bruce talked about Sam writing the Give me some sugar, Baby when asked if it was hard to say the line with a straight face. It seems it was not in the script prior and Sam added it on set and was giggling in a corner and could barely tell them the line he wanted Bruce to say he was laughing so hard. He also commented that the actress really hit him in the movie, and Sam encouraged her to never give Bruce any warning before she did. So, what will he be doing in Spider-Man 3? Well, lets see. In the first film I gave him his name. In the second film I was the only one to defeat him. So, I guess in the third one Ill be Spider-Man. Man With the Screaming Brain will be airing shortly on the Sci-Fi station (and the first 2 issues of the comics are out now). Other than that, wait for it to be released on DVD around Halloween. Someone asked getting bigger roles as time went by, to which Bruce rephrased the question (he repeated most into the microphone so we could all hear) Are my parts getting bigger? and everyone just laughed. I walked into that one. Now, theres always got to be scary people at Bruce Campbell events it seems. One person told Bruce that he rolled out of bed this morning (Which appears to have been five minutes ago, Bruce replied to that) in order to get relationship advice from him. To this Bruce commented he has no idea and that actors are actors and the relationships on screen are not how they are like in real life. Why, what was your question? Are you dating? I have a girlfriend. Where is she? She left. Well, I havent seen her. We met last night...uh, well talk later. Then came the VERY LONG autograph line. Bruce was, apparently calling sick friends who couldnt make it, signed books, videos, posters (Ill sign ANYTHING.) and taking pictures. At one point, he came back to the microphone and said, Know how to use your camera, because if you cant figure it out, neither can we. After about an hour of waiting, Bruce returned to the microphone again and pointed out Howard Berger who had just come in. Sweet! Okay, let me tell you who he is. Howard Berger is one of the founding men of the K.N.B. EFX Group (K.N.B is their names: Kurtzman, Nicotero and Berger) and the team has done special effects (not CGI, the real stuff) for Xena, Hercules, Kill Bill, Sin City, Cursed and Blade 3 to name a few. They are in town shooting a project (which they did not name, though the only movie I know of right now being shot in Vancouver stars Jennifer Garner, so maybe). Well, darn right I went over to meet the guy, and ooooh, hes wearing a Narnia shirt, so I needed to get more information: So, currently only The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe has been shot. Based on the success of the movie, possibly all seven books may be made into films. Prince Caspin will be the second movie if The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is successful. EVERYONE MUST GO! GO! GO! Howard was really friendly and very nice to all the fans and commented he felt weird signing Bruces book (as I said, I had nothing else. Oh how I wish I had brought the Evil Dead DVD. *sigh*). There was another member from the K.N.B. EFX Group there and I got him to sign the book as well (but, uh, I never got his name, because I felt stupid asking, so now I can never say who that signature belongs to, because, heaven forbid a signature looks like a name!). I then had a picture taken with Howard and it was back to waiting for Bruce. FINALLY (some two hours later), its my turn (and I was 151. Man, did I feel sorry for 350!). Bruce commented on my Knucklehead shirt as he called it (the Reign of Comedy shirt Autolycus, Joxer and Salmoneus) to which I replied, Yes, all three knuckleheads. Bruce signed my books and when I said one was to my friend Nick who had to move, Bruce asked what Nick does. I told him we both work at eBay. Really? So, you can both sell these later. Never! I got my picture and the day was done. All in all, it was like a very tiny convention with only one guest, but, hey A) it was free and B) it was Bruce so I had a blast! BATTLE ON XENA!
