One can hardly yell after the departing person "Hey, I take it back, I'm not your friend and your writing sucks". Well, one can, but at the risk of making oneself appear slightly deranged. > The next day when I went to the con events, Cheryl again started on me > about Fugate. And continued to trumpet this endlessly all weekend. You see, this is the real source of your problem. It isn't Katherine Fugate (who actually does seem to be a nice person, if hopelessly deluded :) It's Cheryl. You really needed to have killed her. Or at least kidnapped her and hid her safely in a linen closet somewhere until the con was safely over. > Now, luckily I did not share the second half of the story with Cheryl. > Which was that Fugate had gone into the room right next door to mine. And ROTFL! I can just imagine it! You wouldn't want to be seen leaviing your room wearing a 'Friend in Need' tee shirt, would you? Just as there are Gabfundies who are far, far worse than the little blonde kid herself, so there are Fugatefundies who probably quite alarm Katherine when she encounters them en masse. I suspect your problems with them in the hallway would have been as nothing compared with Katherine's. Now if you have the same reservations that I do about a Xena movie scripted by Katherine Fugate, the thing to do would have been to tell Cheryl the magic room number and then get yourself moved to a room far away, leaving Saint Katherine to the undivided attentions of her more devoted followers.... after a couple of days and nights of that, I imagine Katherine would urgently desire to move to Mongolia and spend her days writing documentaries about yaks. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Well, I just viewed the interviews and commentaries of 'Fates' and I'll risk some observations - It seems that RJ and RT considered the events of 'Destiny' to be the crucial incident in Xena's life, and wanted to explore what would be different if that were changed. I guess that is roughly what they said to Katherine Fugate but what she seems to have heard was 'subtext' ;) It seems all agreed that Xena was going to end up on Caesar's cross one way or another, and that she was going to end up with Gabrielle. (In parenthesis, this looks to be quite contrary to the usual Xena/Hercules view that 'we make our own destiny'. In fact there's a line near the end of Fates that seems to come out of nowhere, 'everything happens precisely as it should'. I wouldn't call getting crucified 'things happening as they should' - this line makes no sense to me at all, besides flatly contradicitng most of the series. I find it ironic that some of the fans who hated Friend in Need on the grounds that, they claim, FIN denies Xena's power to change her destiny or escape retribution for her evil past (or however they put it) - should then apparently idolise Fates which states far more explicitly that one cannot escape ones fate. So far as I can see, the usual 'message' of the series is just "Shit happens" What else? - oh yeah, that "I love you Gabrielle" on the cross - which struck Lucy as false in the commentary (and Rob implies that he would not have put that line in, but he and RJ were tied up producing Many Happy Returns). I just realised where that came from - I was watching Soul Possession and there's a flashback there to Ides, and of course Gabs famously says "I love you Xena" on the cross there. KF playing at 'echoes' of past eps. But in Ides, there was plenty of grounding for that line - unlike in Fates ("She's hardly met the girl, for heaven's sake" - Lucy). The famous kiss-that-didn't-happen in the prison cell. Rob said something like: "The kiss was never going to be filmed. But you tell the writer that once, and it keeps coming back in draft after draft... " The impression I get is that, left to Lucy and Rob (and maybe Renee too, I didn't notice her demurring), it would have been a far 'drier' ep (not 'dry' in the sense of dusty or boring, 'dry' in the the wine sense of 'not so fruity/sweet'). I think I like the commentary better than the ep. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I thought Renee's comment about reality TV being the death of Television was so on target. I was also glad to hear her praise my 2 favorite shows... Lost & Desperate Housewives. Now couldn't you just see LL & ROC joining the casts of both of these shows? Lost would give them the opportunity to play the drama side with rich character development (a la flashbacks to a past life b4 the crash).... OR a similar opportunity in DH but with a campy sense of humor (God Lucy would be great moving in to Wysteria Lane)!! Maybe we should write to petition ABC?? ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
