Consider - at the start of Path of Vengeance, Varia ordered the Roman prisoners killed (makes her a war criminal, I think). And Cyane protested strongly at that, but stopped short of disobeying orders to prevent it. Anyway, regardless, the council of queens elects Varia supreme leader. This is the Varia that they then have to rescue at all costs, as being the only hope for the tribe. Yet, when Varia tries to kill Gabs, they're ready to see Varia executed for it, just like that. Not very consistent, I think. Personally, I never thought Varia had what it takes to be queen material. Much too flaky. Couldn't the council of queens come up with anyone more reliable? What next? Oh yeah, well those Amazons are so tied up with their laws and customs that they can't let Xena stick around for the coronation (so what else is new? - and then they can't let Xena lead them into battle, they have to settle for Gabs instead (can anyone say "plot device" ? :) (Of course, maybe Eve could have, if she was still around - she had Gabs' Right of Caste, remember. And she had the command experience. Now why didn't TPTB do that? - that would have been really interesting. Eve press-ganged into service to rescue Varia.) But the question that immediately strikes me is this - the combined Amazon tribes have, presumably, all come together in Greece. And they're in an Amazon camp in traditional Amazon land, right? And they allegedly chose Gabs to lead them because she's the only Amazon familiar with the territory (never mind that she's been away for 35 years...) So my question is this - - what happened to all the local Amazons? The ones from Marga and Varia's tribe that we saw in Coming Home and Dangerous Prey? Did they all (except Varia) suddenly fall down a hole or something? I'm afraid the urge to do Saving Private Ryan seems to have produced more plot holes even than KT can find in Fates... ;) cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Last night ET's The Insider kept hyping a stunt double flying through the air on fire and encouraging people to guess if the actor was injured. I was doing other things and my attention was only half on the show. Imagine my surprise when the clip they showed was of Xena from FIN and was Zok Bell doing the spectacular stunt of twisting through the air on fire in the red kimono. Then they mentioned commentary was on the Xena DVD and that Double Dare was soon to come out (June 7). Huzzas to Universal and the Double Dare distributors for getting this on the air! It was welcome to see. bd ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
