Not too campy, not too serious, believable and yeah, she created a character I wouldn't mind following around for a while longer to see what she's up to next. Some spoilers below: The movie itself was not near so bad as I thought it might be. While I wouldn't have watched it if Lucy hadn't been in it, I didn't feel like it was a total loss except for the Lucy parts. Which was a possibility for me. It had some fun parts and on the whole good acting. I enjoyed some of the tongue in cheek things. Like their little roving motorhome being identified as "The Voracious Insect Mobile Research Lab". LOL! And the typical pretty girl and boy newscasters brightly intoning the progress of the swarms. The station call signs were made up, no? I thought these wink-wink, nudge-nudge touches were just right--not too overdone, totally sharing with the audience rather than trying to act as if they were putting something over on us. I felt that the people who made this movie cared enough to do their best for it. I liked that. I guess I'm > just a sucker for bug movies. I thought Lucy was very good and very much in > Lucy form. Then I also liked the fact that the woman whom I assumed was a > nervous secretary winds up being the science geek that figures out how to > build the giant bug sapper. The women were the movers and shakers in this movie. The ones who didn't hit the panic button, the ones who figured out what was going on and how to fix it and who stood up to the typical male hierarchal authority figures and fought for their ideas to be used to solve the problem. I also noticed a very refreshing more realistic quotient of non-caucasian folks. There was a greater mix of "others", more so than the normal nod to token representation of the racial diversity of America that you see in most movies. > > Anyway this isn't classic drama but it was enjoyable. But, that could NOT be more Lucy when she spit it out. I also thought, "I am pregnant and hormonal" was very 'Xena' delivered. That was good. As likely one of the people expecting the WORST of this movie, I am quite shocked to say - it was a B movie. Not a D or a C as I thought, but a B. Great to hear Joe's work, but the movie was all Lucy, totally shinning the whole way through. It was a damned joy to see her, especially for an hour and a half. I think 'terrifying' would be very apt as a description of those cards :) cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I Mean Locusts! Just a few short comments: I thoroughly enjoyed it. It wasn't the greatest film ever made, but it was entertaining and moved along with authority. Lucy was once again the steely-eyed, intelligent hero, without the breastplate, sword and chakram and less the cranky 'tude. And she got to wear some nifty clothes that showed her figure off nicely (or her figure showed off the clothing nicely). While I found the ending scientifically dubious, if not preposterous (SPOILER ALERT!! giant bug-zapper indeed! END SPOILER ALERT!!), it was still entertaining. And the wimmin saved the planet! As Kermit the Frog would say -- Yaaayyyy!! I was afraid they wouldn't let Maddie figure it all out and she would get sidelined in favor of some man or a consensus on the idea. I was pleasantly pleased. I was also amused as Maddie's husband developed the vapors over the fact that she wanted a family and a career, too. HE gave up his job to stay home for a relationship. Why couldn't she, as well? At least he developed some good sense later on, so he wasn't hopeless. Well, thems my thoughts. I had a great time watching it and enjoyed Lucy and her character a lot. I really can't ask for more. bd ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
