I'd be up for buying more sets for more commentary. If they choose ones I love/really like to talk about. As I've said before, I really wish they'd do an Evil Xena set, which would inherently then include many, heck most of my personal list of excellent/very good eps. > > >GASP! NOT buy a Xena set?! Yeah, I'm spending $40 on that! *rolls > eyes* Do other shows do that? Do they include amateur fan stuff in their dvds as XWP has done and will do again? BITTER TREAT SPOILER BELOW: They showed just a bit of it at this year's con. The "Peace/War" song which in Bitter Treat is set up as a battle between the carnivorous soldiers and the vegetarian villagers--so they sing in challenge to each other, "Peas! Boar!". END OF SPOILER They did not however, show the ending which I think has the best line of all. 'NOTHER SPOILER!!!!! When Xena and Gabrielle are on the beach, dabbling in the surf, Gabrielle says, "We're home" and Xena answers, "At last." In Bitter Treat, the lines are, Gabrielle: "We're homo". Xena: "At last". I crack up everytime I think of that line. END OF SPOILER > Hell, *I'M* working on a fan video too, so I can't judge. Ha ha ha. Ashera > and I are still working on "Adventures in the Muppet Trade." Bwhahahahaha. > BATTLE ON XENA! > > Xena Torres: Warrior Writer Well free videos downloaded from web sites are fine. (Though to be honest, all the ones I have were given to me on disk by buddies. And I thank them dearly for them.) But I'm just not interested at all in watching fan reinactments of scenes, never mind PAYING for them. I've seen some of these films at the cons and frankly, they never hold my interest. I give them a chance by watching the beginning, but I have yet to sit all the way through one--I leave and go looking for my friends to visit with them instead while they're showing these. I also don't watch the costume contests--just not interested in them either. KT ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I thought they said that there would >be commentary from >Rob, Lucy and Renee. I was assuming NEW commentary. I may be blind. Still....ugh...MAYBE then. *sigh* I really don't care for the list. And I already have TWO FIN commentaries. And some commentaries are way better than others. I do like commentaries with Rob. He's always got lots of interesting things to say. And Lucy and Renee also offer a nice mix of interesting tidbits and humour. >Do other shows do that? Do they include amateur fan stuff in their dvds as >XWP has done and will >do again? Has done? The only other fan thing before was on the season six set, talking to fans at the convention - and, I must admit - I watched maybe 5 minutes. Of course I DO think what other fans have to say (why else would I be on mailing lists), but not in that sort of forum. NONE of any of the TV show box sets I have (and I have a lot) have any fan things. HOWEVER, "Trekkies 2" does have two fan movies - which suck. But that is all about the fandom, and it's the right place to have such things. >This is an ancient text (grin) and what they did was take pieces of the ep >and put their own dialogue over it. And singing. YES! We were VERY lucky to get a copy to borrow -had to return it and couldn't make copies. :( - at the 3rd PNW XenaFest. The committee watched it first, and then we aired it at the event. I don't follow the subtect as maintext, but, GODS, TOO funny! I couldn't stop laughing. That was GREAT! >Well free videos downloaded from web sites are fine. But I'm just not >interested at all in watching >fan reinactments of scenes, never mind >PAYING for them. See, that's the difference. I don't want to see reinactments either. But, perhaps, if well done, I wouldn't mind fan videos that make a parody of a Xena ep (a la, "The Bitter Treat") The "Adventures in the Muppet Trade" movie Ashera and I are doing we came up with in season four when we heard that Bert was gonna get 86ed to squash the "Bert and Ernie" are gay issues (and, correct me if I'm wrong, but I did hear that Bert HAS been killed in a car crash or something). Well, we just thought this was the STUPIDEST thing we ever heard. Then we started cracking jokes about Ernie searching for Bert, like Xena did for Gab in "Sin Trade." Then we couldn't stop....suddenly we'd cast all the characters (Alti, for example, is the Swedish Chef and Cyane is Miss Piggy) and were coming up with the craziest gags and just killing ourselves laughing. So, we're gonna shoot this thing. But, we gotta make muppets, costumes, sets, buy a good digital camera - blah, blah, blah. Lots of work, and likely a fair amount of cash. We're not just shooting ourselves in bad costumes in the back yard (so NOT trashing on people who entered the contest - I was tempted too myself for those prizes - and thought it would be fun). Now, long as it will be, can't really be a free download, though clips would be offered. And the cost would be REALLY cheap to cover mailing and cost of goods. ;) ie: NO PROFIT - hardly the case with the Best of Xena DVDs. >I've seen some of these films at the cons and frankly, they never hold my >interest. I didn't even know there were others! I only knew about "The Bitter Treat." I'm game for anything that meets that quality. But, I also would most likely not be into them at conventions. Limited time and all. >I also don't watch the costume contests--just not interested in them >either. I don't watch the contest, but I do admire the costumes as I walk about. I'd dress up too if I could make outfits that cool! I'm ALWAYS tempted to wear my Trek costume when I go to Trek cons, but can never bring myself to do it, cause it's just a shirt. Don't feel worthy next to those wicked Klingon and Borg costumes. Those are SWEEEEEET. BATTLE ON XENA! No not that Locust real locust. Saturday night I was watching the History channel which had a program about Biblical disasters and, naturally, locust came up. Locust are really, really bad. When they came they literally ate everything in sight and people did starve. In the Middle Ages the bishops would threaten to excommunicate the locusts when they came but the locusts were unimpressed and ate everything and people starved (no one explained why the bishops thought acumination would work , grasshoppers seldom if ever go to mass). Today they still are a grave threat in underdeveloped countries while industrialized nations have been able to control them with pesticides. Scientists are now concerned that the locusts will eventually develop and immunity to the pesticides and if they do we are going to have to get George Bush and Jerry Falwell to excommunicate them (that probably won't work since I don't think grasshoppers are Protestants, more than they were Catholic). So Lucy's bioengineered locusts which are bigger and hungrier than the average ravenous locust would indeed be a really bad threat. So Locust! may not be crap (as some one dubbed it ) but a cautionary tale based on reality. But seriousness of a real issue besides - Locusts! will still be crap! ;) I'm thinking "Eight Legged Freaks" kinda crap. It's the cheesy, big, bad bug movie. Can you name ONE that WASN'T crap? I think what happened is that people had season 5 fresh in their minds and voted for those episodes. Now as to all the gnashing of teeth over WFC and OAAAA being on the Best of Xena lists I am surprised that anyone would be surprised that they made the list. They are two of the most popular episodes among the fans. I also have to confess that they are also favorites of mine. I especially liked WFC probably for the very reason most of you all didn't like it. I thought it was an interesting take on what would have happened if Xena's history was changed. I was not upset the Xena didn't act like Xena because I expected that Xena would behaved differently if her experiences were different. I think it is perfectly reasonable to assume that if she lived a life of wealth and respect she would not have been a ruthless warlord but that her more benevolent side would emerge while still being a warrior. Also I think if Xena hadn't come along Gabrielle would have figured a way out of Podunk and made something of herself possibly because Xena as empress made it easier for women to get an education. So there are my thoughts on that. I however agree that The Debt, Sacrifice and Sin Trade should been voted as one episode. Probably if that happened they would have made it to the DVD.
