First, only 2,906 people voted. That is hardly a significant number. Second they started the voting at the con--you could fill out little paper ballots. I saw people grabbing handfuls of them there and running away with them. So people who were at the con could "vote early and vote often". Third and MOST annoying to me, when they listed the eps online, they split up the double eps. That is SO stupid! The darn Argo awards used to do that and it just drove me nuts! How could any rational person choose between part one and part two as one half of an ep being the best ever ep? It's impossible. This always handicaps them terribly. I wrote in The Debt at the con--so they must have either arbitrarily decided to list it as one vote for either Debt 1 or Debt 2 or they split my vote in half. I remember the only time I ever voted at the Argos, I voted for FIN and my confirmation informed me that my vote was counted as 1/2 for FIN 1 and 1/2 for FIN 2. Which means that if only two fans voted, and one voted for FIN and one voted for Heart of Darkness, Heart of Darkness would win as best ep. Abysmally stupid. (NOTE: Even with this handicap, FIN was nominated more than any other ep and either won First place or came in Second. YES!) And of course, FIN made the cut here too, despite being handicapped. Fourth, a little friend of mine pointed out the online contest to me with the words, "Nyah, nyah, I voted for Fates five times!" When I asked her how come only five, she said that it wasn't just deleting cookies, you had to get through on another server. So she voted in work, at home, at the library, at the university and at a local coffee shop. Determined little bugger, eh? You know this is someting I've run into before. Years ago, I was trying to vote for Lucy somewhere and I was told that I couldn't because I'd already voted. I even wrote the company and they told me it was because I'd been voting through the UAF server which someone had already voted on. And so my vote wouldn't be counted. That's nuts! So we have a very small number of voters, we have ballot box stuffing, we have the great double/triple eps handicapped and we have people with excreable taste voting. Case in point: Prometheus got 11 votes. PROMETHEUS! ELEVEN VOTES! While you are seriously annoyed, I found the whole exercise hilarious. (Except for the Epic eps always being handicapped-that always ticks me off.) This poll is, like most unscientific and uncontrolled posts, pure nonsense. The most surprising thing to me was just how good a list it was. It could have been far worse. PROMETHEUS! ELEVEN VOTES! Very peculiar choices. > You know, I was thinking when I first heard about this poll that I would much rather have had a new set with the Bext of Xena as chosen by the people who worked on the show. Everyone from Rob on down--as long as that focus puller watched the finished eps, that is. But I realized that it would be a very small set--since so many of the top creative staff have already proclaimed The Debt as their favorite, as the one that makes them most proud. Grin. Hmmm. We could have the writers' favorite set, the directors' favorite set. That would be cool. > I agree. I went to see with open eyes, but the list just does not seem like > the Best of Xena. Gonna give this a pass. > > S. GASP! NOT buy a Xena set?! Hmmm. Actually, you know, it will depend for me upon what eps have commentary. I loved Amphipolis Under Seige and Been There Done That AND Many Happy Returns. (You know, I just a few days ago figured out why I like Many Happy Returns so much. Because to me, it's the "goodbye" from Lucy and Renee. The X&G creatures in MHR are hardly X&G of the angst-filled lives. But they ARE Lucy and Renee. And I think this silly, goofy, prank-filled, exasperating each other, scamming others, bumping breasts in the hilarious fake fight scene, etc. that's all the grrls. And I am happy that they gave us this flying into the sunset ending for the silly side of the series. Along with FIN for the serious side.) I'm also totally not thrilled with putting fan stuff on the DVD. What a waste of space. I'd much rather have another ep. KT PROMETHEUS! LITTLE GREEN EGG MEN! 11 VOTES! ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Or people who were stuffing the ballot box got to pick more than one. It wasn't hard for me to pick the Debt as tops. My second would be FIN or Sin Trades (some days FIN is 2nd, some days Sin Trades is). But after that, the placement of many excellent eps is variable. And I gotta agree with you--it's impossible to compare the serious eps with the comedies on an equal basis. They're just totally different in intent. Season six had the greatest number of excellent comedies, I felt (along with some unintentional ones, grin) but if I had to choose between You are There and The Debt, no contest. I just have two lists of favorites, drama and comedy. While of course, enjoying that almost every ep had a least a soupcon of humor sauce.
