I believe I read that they were aware the Gabs/Dahak "planting seed" scene needed to be handled sensitively, which is why they went to such pains to come up with the solution they did. I didn't want to get into whether the act of showing something means "approval," unless we're talking approval of something as suitable material to use for dramatic purposes. > They were forced by circumstances into 'dancing around' the issue, simply > because the story leaked before the episode aired. >> I don't see anything wrong with, "I don't want to comment on what hasn't been aired yet. I don't recall you saying either of you saw it any differently after the fact. I gave my response to that from a personal perspective. I was trying to explain why I (not generally considered a "Gabfundie") agreed with their perceptions, if not their means of expression. I'd already said I didn't approve of screaming at Sears. I wouldn't have continued the thread if I'd realized that, to you, it was still all about that blasted leak and Sears getting flamed. > > Now why anybody (such as Steve) would bother to have anything to do with > fans, when they show their thanks by turning on him, I just cannot > imagine. If he got nothing from it, he wouldn't do it. From what I understand, a lot of fans appreciate his accessibility. One segment took advantage of it in a way that put him in a bind. If he (like apparently you) lumps the rest of us in with the flaming fans, then maybe he'd walk away with a negative view and an inabililty to appreciate why anybody other than the flamers might share some of their perceptions. > Some shows would never have permitted their staff to go near fans, still > less > chat on the Internet or attend conventions etc. Some shows (possibly most > shows) would never allow websites to use their copyright material in the way > > the Xena sites have done. I think the attacks on Steve were blatant abuse > of that consideration by some fans. >> I'll always be proud of an appreciate Xenastaff's relationship with their fans. Accessibility is a double-edged sword. For the most part, I think we all benefitted. I believe it heightened the loyalty, credibility and popularity of the show (not to mention interest in commercial adjuncts). Years from now, there will still be tons of websites that maintain interest in the show and personnel. You can't pay for that kind of long-term promotion. There continue to be media references to the Xena fanbase and activities. Tapert is a very smart man when it comes to understanding it is better to have your audience with you than treat them as the enemy. Beyond practical advantages, I happen to believe he truly respects us and is happy for us to use the show for our continuing pleasure in just about any way we see fit. Some folks abuse that approach. Even then it's because they became so passionate about and invested in XWP. I think he'd rather have that, than, "Ho hum, what's the big deal? It's just a T&A TV show." - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Damnit! That sucks. :P So, watch it while it's up, cause it won't be forever. :P As for the short - GO RENEE! The short is pretty much just Renee on a phone. It's all about her. ;) Renee plays, Meg, a single mother who is getting deployed to Bagdad - but what to do with her kids. It's a great little film though the end didn't resolve the issue, but RENEE ROCKS! It's VERY easy to sign up, (about five seconds) and on the main page, you can click the little tools in the bottom left corner to choose your viewing preferences. The sound quality is terrible though some dialogue is lost. Also, there seems to be a line running across the 'sceen' throughout the short, but not too bad for an internet viewing. BATTLE ON XENA! Sigh. I have tried several of the email addresses at adriennewilkinson.com, to no avail.
