The last version of Rate-a-Xena I've got cached gives FIN 1 a 7.48 (same as Many Happy Returns) and FIN 2 a 7.31 - just above Anthony & Cleopatra, The Abyss, Dreamworker and Altared States. (And well above Sin Trade, I have to say :( The average rating was 7.15. So while it doesn't rate up there with The Debt, its position certainly indicates that enough people liked it to push it up above the middle of the scale. (434 and 444 people voted on FIN 1 and 2 respectively). FIN 2 also had the biggest divergence in ratings. All that 'proves' is that we're not so alone as you might think. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Antony and Cleopatra... Xena and Gabrielle. Well I actually did think that Xena may indeed be a ghost (I'm rather fond of the idea of Xena as a pesky ghost ala Topper-boy am I dating myself but it was a favorite show when I was little) but I think it did symbolize the fact that Xena will always be with Gabrielle in her heart and mind. Although I also liked the director's cut better than the aired episode I also felt Gabrielle alone on the boat was the proper ending. I thought it showed Gabrielle going off to be her own type of hero, confident in herself and acknowledging that as long as she had her love for Xena she would never be alone. I think the new was an attempt to sooth the feelings of those who were upset with the original ending but I doubt that people who were furious over Xena staying dead would be placated by that minor change. TPTB should have left well enough alone. CherylA ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. That's what the end meant to me. That's why I understood that Xena died but Gabby didn't (and, face it people, Xena would have gone first anyway - she's gotta have at LEAST 15 years on the gal!) Now Gabby can be the hero Xena was, but in her own way, no longer walking in Xena's shadow. Xena's death allows Gabrielle to finally REALLY become her own person. I mean, we've seen HOW many times on the show that Xena keeps pulling Gab in a different direction she wanted to go. Not in a bad way, mind you. Gab made her choice to be with Xena, but now she can maek the choice to be with herself. Plus, they will be reunited again and again and again and again... BATTLE ON XENA! Are we talking the small percentage of folks in discussion lists who actually post? Meet-ups like Xena Night? Folks who go to cons? People who participate in ratings thingies or write articles for Whoosh? Who have XWP websites? IOW, do we only count those who publicly declared their opinions in some way? I've seen so many different calculations of that -- including viewer numbers which can be skewed by time slot, schedule changes, etc. Specifically, who are the "six" people you're referring to? You don't normally find anything that was shown on TV going missing from the DC. But that's what happened in the case of FIN - a few seconds of the final scene, showing Gabs alone, were _in_ the TV ep but cut from the DC. So I think he probably cut those few seconds out after the TV version had screened to appease some of the fans. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. My interpretation is that it was Xena's spirit there with Gabrielle. Whether Xena was actually physically visible, or Gabs just 'saw' Xena in her mind, I wouldn't care to say. (But I'm not suggesting Gabs was imagining Xena, IMO Xena's spirit was 'really there').
