Though Churchill certainly did see active service during his career, unlike many politicians that we won't mention here. But that's off the point. The point is, I think, that if someone is going to be compared to (say) Xena, they should at least have something in common with Xena, other than just being prominent. I find it absurd that any woman politician who espouses aggressive or 'hawkish' politics (never having personally risked anything more than paper-cuts in their life) seems to get compared (or would like to be compared) with the Warrior Princess, presumably under the impression that Xena must have been a gung-ho nuke-em-all-first-and-ask-questions-afterward warlord. As we know, Evil Xena was, but the Xena of the show was not like that at all. The entire message that I get from XWP is that force of arms should be a last resort, not the first. Which just shows that anyone making comparisons like that has never watched the show, I guess. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. She let herself get sucked in to answering a reporter's slightly absurd question that she could very easily (and legitimately) have avoided in half a dozen ways, and earned herself a politely worded but definite rebuke from Lucy. Secretaries of State are not supposed to leave themselves wide open like that. What happened was, as I recall: New Zealand's non-nuclear policy was very much in the news. Anyway, Ms A in a press conference on her arrival, presumably trying to ingratiate herself, said what a big fan of 'Xena' she was. So some reporter (and Ms A should have seen this coming a mile off) asked if Xena would have approved of nukes and Ms A said "I'm sure she would". Errrm, bzzzzt! - wrong answer, in all possible ways, including in the context of the show - one assumes Ms 'big fan' A had never seen 'The Dirty Half Dozen' or 'Back in the Bottle' or she'd know Xena's reaction to new and deadly weapons Did I say how I hate politicians trying to grab some reflected glory or popularity by associating themselves with an icon such as Xena? Gotta love it when it rebounds on them! cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. If you go to BestBuy to get your S4 DVD's, you might want to check the contents before you leave the store. I drove 40 minutes thru near-holiday traffic (dumb, I know) to make sure I purchased the version with the exclusive bonus content. (I'd bought from BB online before, only to discover that version didn't have the extra disk.) What do I find as I'm opening the box some minutes later on my way to an event? Nothing in the round space labeled "Disc Nine Supplemental Bonus Material." Arghhhh! The receipt blew out of the bag in the parking lot, but fortunately I was able to snag it, seeing as how I've had problems before. Still, I've got to drive all the way back out there to make an exchange. I haven't heard of anyone else experiencing that. I am beginning to think I'm cursed, no matter how diligent I am about getting the right verseion. But you never know. It could happen to you. - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
