Actually, many years ago I used to think that _all_ horror films were complete rubbish... I changed my mind a little when I saw the original 'Frankenstein' (with Boris Karloff, of course) in a double bill with one of the old Hammer Films Dracula movies which had (for those days) glorious colour photography. And since then, I've been very impressed with the 'Alien' series (which are sci-fi horror) and which are without doubt *the* scariest movies ever made (IMO) - but very, very well made. Oh yes, and Dr Phibes Rises Again, which is impressive just for the visual design and the sheer elegance of the sets. But other than those, most horror is junk (IMO.... :) The other genre Rob loves is, of course, Hong Kong action movies. I think, since Xena aired, with its acknowledged debt to that genre, they've become more fashionable - whether they owe that partly to Xena or it's just coincidence, I don't know. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I think it does qualify as 'horror' (as well as suspense) in that the alien is truly monstrous and frightening. (The other three Alien movies are also excellent, IMO). I draw a sharp line between 'horror' and 'splatter' which is a repulsive genre in which the producers just try to nauseate the audience with disgusting effects. Though the alien was repulsively slimy and the 'chest-burster' was - umm, repulsive, the director didn't play them for nausea but rather for fear and shock - which makes it true 'horror' IMO. And yes, the suspense puts it in a class of its own. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer." "medium rare with mustard'd be nice " But in the NY Metro area, chile burgers, mushroom and onion burgers, pizza burgers, bacon burgers, swiss burgers et al. are common. Expand your culinary horizons! Embrace diversity! Carry Pepto Bismol! The "all of the above" option does sounds vile. It's like a "garbage pizza". But steak and eggs is good, hamburger and eggs shouldn't be bad. Pickled beets aren't THAT much different than pickled cucumbers and those are on every Big Mac. Horseradish and corned beef or pot roast is a must. The pineapple doesn't grab me but I'll try, catsup is sweet, a pineapple not soaked in sugar isn't much sweeter than a Vailadia onion. I'm not sure about the egg. Since CR says the egg should be a little runny it sounds like the burger would get a little messy to eat and I should not be anywhere near messy food unless I'm wearing a bib. Thanks for the research.
