I am so ebvious of everyone who saw her. When I wrote Sharon I said I hoped Lucy would sing that sone and it is so ironic that she did. The sone is one of my favorite Webber songs and it is from Aspects of Love my favorite Webber show. It didn't play long in NYC where it just wasn't appreciated by the critics. If anyone ever gets a chance to see it - go. It isn't a big spectacular but its just a wonderful story full of fascinating characters who all love each other in different ways. TPTB certainly pushed the > >envelope by making her crimes worse than initially suggested. > > > I wonder if we are guilty of beautism? Would we forgive Xena so readily > if she was ugly? > Hmmm. Not sure. Beauty can carry more expectation of good behavior -- e.g., "She has no excuse! With looks like that, she can get what she wants without acting ugly." And what about Callisto? Do we forgive her for her role in Solan's death? We may say she's nuts, but I'm not sure that's the same as forgiveness. For me, beauty was way down on my list of what made me love Xena. I hadn't seen the trilogy when XWP began and missed "Chariots" the first time around, so my initial impression was, "Wow, isn't it great they got a somewhat heavy, dark-haired, dour-looking person to play this role, as opposed to a Barbie model type." Boy, was I shocked when I finally started seeing Lucy in person and when she wasn't in her leathers. We certainly seem to have some reason for making > > allowances for her, far more than we would in real life.>> Not necessarily. There are a lot of folks in the public eye -- e.g., heads of governments -- we make tons of allowances for, even those responsible for torture or death. At some point, we become invested in them and/or their success. After that, we're likely to overlook acts that we'd be in outrage over with someone else. Many of us got invested in Xena for one reason or another, so maybe her good deeds didn't figure that much into it. - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
