Well *that* doesn't need to be a long interview, does it? How long does it take to say "LSD, PCP, methamphetamine" ? ;) (Incidentally, that's libellous anyway, IMO) Or to say "Arrgh, sorry, we goofed" which is more like it. We've already established that TPTB are quite willing to admit where they goofed, why do we need the widescreen EP version with a cast of thousands to rub it in? ;) I'd *much* rather we got a extended treatment of Amphipolis Under Siege. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. At least ISAIH had > the redeeming feature of being interesting. Sorry, A Good Day was an ep that I really found interesting. It said so much about what Gabrielle had learned from Xena and it forshadowed some of the interactions that X&G had in FIN. Not all of that good stuff made it to the screen. It was the first time they had talked about what Gabrielle had learned. It was also the first time that Xena asked Gabrielle for her assessment of a battle situation and it led to a lot of growth. It also led to the dilemma that this was the first time that Gabrielle had to lead others into battle and lead people to their deaths. We saw what that cost - she didn't want to have to do it, but she had to and she did. Again part of her path that led to The Way (of peace) as well as foreshadowing her role in Amphipolis under Siege. And there was the haunting grief at the end that reflected back to The Deliverer. It also had shades of When in Rome in the sense of trying to do what is right in shades of grey -trying to decide what to do when there is no right and wrong. I found this a very rich episode and some of the missing bits really should make it to the screen. ISAIH OTOH was offensive, but I won't go there. :-) Ann ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. This is good news. This is one of my favorite eps from that season, ROC fan that I am ... despite the stooopid "bunny Xena" at the end ... but maybe they'll discuss just what in Hades they were thinking with that one. :) I gotta say I agree with everything Anne has said regarding ISAIH and hoping for extras on "A Good Day". I remember how disappointed I was when I first heard about how much had to be cut from "A Good Day" for time reasons. ISAIH and "Fishshticks" represent the absolute nadir of the series IMO, and it'd be just fine with me if they were conveniently omitted from the sets entirely, but hey, that's what the disc menus are for. ;) =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. The India arc was the crown in a brilliant season. (Even though I only ever watched 20 of the episodes on my videos). Telling not showing. I mean, there were bits about it I liked. Always nice to see Jeremy. Maybe the fact it was about Gabrielle only was a turn off for me. I didn't really care for the focus on Gabby's journey - naof growing up and learning stuff is tedious and has been done many times. Hero with a dark past attempting redemption - the hard way! (i.e. still with a homicidal streak) - much more interesting. The relationship - much more interesting. Coming of age and ethical/moral dilemmas - yawnsville. Fifth, like cr, I didn't mind hearing about some of the production challenges, so I'm thinking those'll be covered by other Xenastaff and still hit some of the eps I wanted to hear about (e.g., India arc, Crusader, Tale of Two Muses). Ditto "A Good Day". Commentaries are a different ball of wax from the episode itself. It was interesting to see that "Vanishing Act" was view as a turkey by all concerned, yet it did not receive as much fan outrage as some other eps (although, it may be one of the first "Hercules"-like eps). It was interesting to here Rob say, effectively "you can't win em all".
