Did you realize at the time that it was >unusual to have so much focus on Gabs? Were you a little disappointed later, >when things got more back to normal? Actually, "Quest" wasn't the episode that sucked me in. That was "The Xena Scrolls", which I stumbled across halfway through while channel-surfing one day. What was this clever Indiana Jones parody, and who was that woman in horn-rimmed glasses (a dead ringer for Kate Bush in her "Hounds Of Love" video)? I eventually figured out what I was watching, and I was stunned. I realized then that my initial mistake had been in believing that X:WP took itself seriously. With "The Xena Scrolls", I knew that was definitely not the case! WPIX in NY re-ran X:WP on Sundays, so I made sure to watch the episode from the beginning the next day. It was summer reruns, so the next week's episode was "ADITL". And then I was lost for good. A couple weeks after that they reran "Destiny" and "The Quest", so I finally got to see what people had been talking about. By then I had inhaled pretty much everything at whoosh.org, so I had a better idea of what was going on, and I wasn't fazed by the focus on Gabrielle in "Quest". >I'd heard there was some cross talk with Buffy lists, but hadn't >realized that might be happening on other completely unrelated lists. Did >a lot >of the Ani folks watch XWP? Do you remember the gist of their comments? The list I was on was one of those lists that ends up rarely, if ever discussing the artist in question, because everyone is too busy talking about other stuff. :) I got the impression that quite a few of the people on the list watched X:WP. Being a group of Ani fans, there was a high concentration of lesbian/bi women on the list, so they talked about the subtext a lot. There was one initial thread I remember that in retrospect has to have occurred when "Altared States" first aired. I recall several "why don't they just show them getting it on and get it over with" type comments after that, so when "Quest" aired there was quite a ruckus. :) Ah, the glory days of yore. :) =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
