She may talk about Gabrielle as a character, but I can't recall her doing so as though she weren't the actress playing her. > I thought of mentioning 'If the Shoe Fits'. I found it fascinating (and > highly amusing) how each character's version of Cinderella was slanted to > their viewpoint. There's also the kind of Freudian stuff about how Xena and Gabs view one another. Plus, there must've been some unusual challenges in terms of production. Really a great blend of the usual action, mundane ADITL moments and fairy tales. > > >I'd like "Lyre" for that > >reason in S5, but I get the feeling I'm in a minority in terms of really > >loving "Lyre." > > I think 'Lyre' is reasonably well thought of. Umm, it does not *automatically* follow that, because Gabfans like an ep, Xenafans will hate it. Only most of the time Personally, I didn't hate it, I thought Auto (Bruce Campbell) did great in it. I was majorly disappointed, though, not by anything that was in it, but by what wasn't in it - M'Lila. After watching 'Destiny', which just blew me away, I really really badly wanted to see more of her. Heck, everyone else in the Xenavers came back from the dead, why not M'Lila? (sob) > I also liked Amphipolis Under Siege, which I know a lot of fans didn't > like (especially for the tin-foil cossies ;=/ ). The tinfoil cossies were terrible. But they didn't spoil the ep for me. > But I loved the > Athena/Ares conflict and especially the *hot* scenes between Ares/X.....;) Yeah, that was one of Ares' best eps IMO. Ares vs Athena was always good value. He had a degree of irreverence that always seemed to get under Athena's skin. In AUS and Motherhood, particularly. So was Ares vs Xena, of course. And Ares vs Callisto, too - I think every encounter between them was a classic. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. And to tell the truth, she seemed so natural in the part, I never really noticed the moves. They don't have to have running > commentary through a whole ep. Yes. Nothing wrong with a running commentary, but in terms of the actor's time, an 'illustrated' interview could be easier to arrange. And also, it may sometimes be better, in allowing the actor to structure their comments better without being cut short by something else they want to talk about happening on screen. Or having to think of something to say to fill in the scenes where they don't have a lot to say (if you follow what I mean). I think both - commentaries and interviews - have their place. > > Oh, I see I anticipated you. Getting TJ Scott to talk about it with ROC ,who was shadowing him on the directing of the episode, would be good because they could discuss the show from a directors point of view not from a creative/ acting POV. > > > And of course there has to be a commentary on Ides of March. Lucy, ROC and Hudson on this one. Some of the best "partnership" scenes from the whole show came here and it would be really interesting to hear their thoughts while watching it. You can just imagine Hudson getting in on the act, very Callisto like in a way. I would definitely want something on the India arc, it was such a big thing. Get ROC to talk about The Way and Gabrielle's way of peace. There was a lot said about the show and the issues at the time, but now the controversy has blown over, there is a lot more that could be said. The Way was only recently shown in the UK for the first time, with no fuss or reaction. Claire Stansfield has got to be interviewed sometime, but I would save it for season 6 and some of the strong Alti material there - Fates? I would also like to have Rob talk about shows like Crusader and A Good Day. These were shows that worked dramatically, but also had an issue to explore. They said things that gave them a depth we don't often see on TV. * Season 5 > > I'd like "Lyre" for that > > reason in S5, but I get the feeling I'm in a minority in terms of really > > loving "Lyre." > This has no depth and I love it. Definitely one of the most often played eps in my house. I have gone on about it before, but I am not sure that interviewing about this one would work. It was highly enjoyable but ephemeral. Rob should definitely do Fallen Angel - like it or hate it (love it personally), it set the scene for much of the season. It was also ambitious, not just in issues like the effects, but in the way that TPTB were still willing to explore religious issues after the controversy about The Way. There must have been oposition to them doing this. Definitely get Amazon High put on it. Then get Lucy and ROC to do video commentry on Motherhood and reflect back on the season. My wish list :-) I love season 4, best of all the seasons. It was just such a challenge as well as a joy (even if it did have the worst ever ep IMO). Two of my favorite episodes from Season 4 were Between the Lines and, as someone mentioned, If The Shoe Fits. I would just like to hear someone, in the DVD's, discuss the animation in Between the Lines, which was some of the best, in my opinion, of the entire series. Also, who was the actress who played the character of the person our sheroes were originally trying to save, only to be saved by her (the Darshan - it's been a while since I read or heard her name). And, the actress who played the warlord, before Alti's character came into the scene. In If the Shoe Fits, I would love to hear someone discuss the New Zealand (and also British?) tradition of women and men taking on other gender role characters in humorous contexts. As was so well done in this episode. Lilli ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. It's funny, "Quest" was the episode that I heard about before I ever saw a full episode of X:WP. I'd seen a couple scenes of what turned out to be "Mortal Beloved" at my sister's house, which confirmed for me that the show was precisely the cheezy crap I'd taken it for (hah!), but then when "Quest" aired, The Kiss inspired a huge thread on the Ani DiFranco mailing list I was on at the time. I started to think "hey, maybe the show has something to it after all". When I finally managed to see the episode, I loved every minute of it. I'd say that's the ep that made me a Gabfan for good.
