Errrm, actually, Xena's previous habit of killing rather large numbers of people may have had something to do with that, too ;) > She however certainly was literate but > interestingly enough Rob at first wanted to make the character illiterate. > Another interesting similarity. > > > There were gold mines near Amphipolis. Yes, that was not uncommon in Greece in those days. In fact it was farily common in the rest of the world too. And come to that, the Balkans have been notorious for that sort of thing right up till the present day. > > > So considering that Xena was a fierce warrior, an expert horsewoman, a > > > dandy singer, had a tendency in her younger days to stick heads on > > > pikes and appeared to like a good orgy now and then - I would say she > > > was the typical Thracian. Incidentally, sometimes they seemed to refer to Thrace as if it was a town rather than a district (certainly in Herc). I guess not all the writers were clued up on ancient Greek geography. And, if they did have a history prof, it's a pity he was out to lunch when they wrote the script for OAAA. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. That would've been just so damned cool. I agree with you. I always disliked bringing Xena into the era of Julius Caesar. I wanted her to stay in ancient Greece. You could have used a lot of the Caesar relationship and just had it occur with Alexander. Alexander certainly was ruthless and ambitious and could have been a compelling villian or adversary for Xena. Well, certain aspects of the Caesar relationship wouldn't actually work, seeing as Alexander wasn't exactly heterosexual. ;) But I know what you mean. > Alexander certainly was ruthless and ambitious and could have been a > compelling villian or adversary for Xena. Exactly. Much better than some of the villains they came up with, for sure! =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org =============================================== ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
