And I agree with TEXena - pakeha/European NZers are generally of British descent. Brown - blonde hair, blue - grey - hazel eyes. Most brown-eyed people in NZ are Maori, Polynesian or Asian - and dyeing their hair blonde to match older Callisto? Nope. Now I would find the actress and toss her a set of coloured contact lenses. Hudson does have lovely eyes. Sojourner ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. This did not happen with my Season 1 Region 1 Farscape DVD's, or any other DVD's I tried. After some fiddling I concluded that the DVD player is set up for 4-channel sound and I was playing back through just two channels (and presumably the dialogue, on those DVD's only, was on the 'other' channels). A bit of fiddling with the Audio menus restored things to normal. So I'd echo what Cheryl said - have a play with the DVD's setup menu (but do note down what setting it's on before you try changing it so you can get back there :) cr On Tuesday 29 July 2003 13:29, Cheryl Ande wrote: > Try adjusting the sound on the DVD player. That's what I thought. The girl was wearing a medallion just like the design on M'Lila's shirt, and Xena was fascinated by it. I was absolutely certain TPTB were going to do something with that but they never did. Maybe they had something in mind that never came to fruition. Actually, I think M'Lila was gorgeous :) And M'Lila's appearance on the scene - I don't think anyone ever had a more dramatic entrance than that! And the way she flattened the Roman guards and rescued Xena off the cross was a joy to watch. Truly a resourceful and capable companion worthy of the Warrior Princess. I was just so disappointed when she died so soon. Great moment in great episode. That whole episode blew me away and that one scene really hit me. I had not thought of the bride/veil example, but it struck me as her being totally trusting of Caesar. The way they did each of them slowly stepping down the stairs. Her look struck me as also being one of dismay and incredulousness [did I spell it right? Do I get extra credit? :-) ] that she was actually being vanquished. Mark ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Given Lucy's own Mrs. New Zealand experiences, she probably appreciated how different contestants use what they have to take whatever opportunities are offered in order to further their goals. Regarding Xena's comment in "Destiny" that "only the girl can save me," Cheryl and cr say: > Xena however may be referring to M'Lilia since > she tells Gabrielle to take her to Niklio the healer. She may also be > talking about Callisto since she had vision of her at Cirra or even > Gabrielle. Anyone have an opinion? IMO, the girl at the ambush, definitely. I think it just ended up as a a loose end. >> I also think this reference was to M'Lila. While maybe there were other intentions for that initially, I thought it made sense that a dazed Xena might confuse the girl with M'Lila because of the medallion, that it would send her memories back to the time when M'Lila saved her. Cr sayeth: << Best thing about the ep - Xena and M'Lila. They were a match for each other, they had a great mutual respect, and they looked so good together. Actually, I think M'Lila was gorgeous :) >> Ditto on all counts. I loved the initial tension between them -- guarded, serious, then playful with an edge. This ep really brought out youthful Xena's innocence when it came to relationships. Neither her men nor M'Lila trusted Caesar, yet Xena's naive arrogance leads her to overestimate her attractiveness to Caesar as a partner on any level. M'Lila's fierce loyalty and compassion gave Xena one model to follow, while Caesar's self-centeredness and ruthlessness gave her another. I think that's as much the choice Xena refers to when she tells M'Lila during near death that, "I chose evil." We find out later that she continued to make such a choice when Cyane, Lao Ma and Borias offered her a more positive alternative. Herc seems to have been the first such person to get through to her. Anyway, I think that's why it's so ironic that M'Lila's death helped establish a pattern in Xena's choices to ignore so many opportunities to change. -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. It's quite possible Akemi didn't have a TV set wherever she was. << Of course that doesn't explain why Akemi let's Gabrielle go off to get Xena's body without a hint that it might not be a good idea. I wrote before that I thought perhaps Akemi may have thought that the ghost killer might have been able to save the 40,000 without Xena staying dead. Akemi seemed very upset when he died and it was after that she told Xena she would have to stay dead. But I don't know. I think that Akemi didn't behave very honorably the second time she met Xena but I don't think it made her bad person. >> Okay, you've helped redeem Akemi in my eyes. She and Xena used each other the first time around. The second time around, she's still a fairly naive girl who knows only that Xena is the best warrior she's ever seen and may still have feelings for her. She learns that Xena is not only changed, but has a friend she loves very much - a reason for being alive. This friend is determined to restore Xena, which Xena has faith the friend may be able to do. Akemi now has mor reason to fear Xena might abort the mission if she knows she has to stay dead, but Akemi also wants to keep Gabrielle from being hurt. Besides, as you say, maybe Akemi believes Harukata, with Xena's help, can keep Xena from staying dead. At any rate, Akemi finally tells Xena the truth, which I do think was honorable and allows Xena the option to choose. I can't condone Akemi's manipulations, no matter how easily Xena's initial greed sucked her in. I can't condone Akemi's keeping the truth from Xena the second time. But I will give her credit for seeing the error of her ways before it was too late, and I don't blame her for a decision Xena made with full knowledge of the consequences. - - Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I was kind of hoping she would have shown up in WFC. I would have like to think that M'Lilia either went back to Egypt ot wound up as Xena's trusted aide. No such luck however. I would like to add on think about Ebonie Smith who played M'Lilia. I have seen her at two conventions and she is terrific. She sings beautifully and has a great memory (she remembered from Pasadena when I met her again about 8 months later - that gets her big points from me (g)). A very nice person and one I wish we had seen again even it wasn't as M'Lilia. CherylA > > Best thing about the ep - Xena and M'Lila. I have had X-Files DVD freeze and had to clean off stray finger prints. One DVD I couldn't play at all on my expensive Sony machine but it played fine on a cheaper one I have on another TV. This weekend I lost the sound entirely on my Xena DVD only to have it magically reappear after I started the DVD again. That was after I tookupstairs to try it on the cheap DVD (worked fine) perhaps I embarrassed the expensive one into working. I think perhaps we are being just a bit over critical. Xena 1 again was filmed on 16mm film and it will be grainy. Season 2 looks better but we are still going from an analog source to a digital, I believe. In 1995 when Xena first aired no one knew DVDs were going to so popular and I doubt if TPTB even thought much about a secondary market like VHS much less DVDs. Perhaps if they had they would have dumped the 16mm film and used the 35mm. Anyway remember only God is perfect and She made the ardvark. So perhaps we will have to live with the Xena imperfection and hope that Anchor Bay will start doing its own transfers soon CherylA ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
