I'm not aware of any of the visual or audio flaws some of you found. However, I'm not particularly DVD savvy either. I think AFIN was the first one I ever watched. I did expect the quality of the S1 DVDs to be better than the commercial tapes, so was initially disappointed to learn that wasn't feasible. I'm satisfied with the other features -- convenience, storage, durability, and improved stereo sound. - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Lucy does look good as a blond but she looks better in a towel. When she covers her hair her bone structure is so prominent that she is breath-taking. Also loved Xena trying her best to participate in the contestants' big number. You can tell she really wants to do well but she just has no interest in learning the chirography and her patients is just about out. I like the screaming clams and snake that are tossed about. Gabrielle makes the startling decision to be French I wonder where she picked up her French accent. Calvin Tuteao played the nice warlord with the girlfriend - he latter played a not so nice warlord - Gurkhan. I kind of wish Salmoneus was used more in Xena. I thought he had a nice a rapport with Lucy and Renee and the show needed a comic character that wasn't as broad as Joxer or Meg. Destiny - I think I must be late to the party but this is the first time I noticed that the design on M'Lilia shirt is the same as Xena's armour. What a nice homage to Xena's first mentor. Also there is an interesting speech by Caesar when he is captured about destiny and he mentions how it is woven in the tapestry of life. It is interesting because that speech thought not quoted in WFC can be seen as a jumping off point for that episode (That's why I liked Katherine Fulgate - she knew the series). Also do you notice that Lucy crosses one eye when she is being examined by Gabrielle - that was good - every time I see that I think "brain damage" and that Xena's a goner. One mystery why is young Callisto also played by the same actress with the sky blue eyes - that is just so strange. I'm sure there are teen-age actresses in NZ with brown eyes. There is also an enigmatic piece of dialog in the beginning of the episode. Xena has been hit by the log and Gabrielle has just come to help her. Xena says something to the effect that "the girl" can save her. Gabrielle thinks she means one of the captives most probably the little girl Xena was saving when she was hurt. Xena however may be referring to M'Lilia since she tells Gabrielle to take her to Niklio the healer. She may also be talking about Callisto since she had vision of her at Cirra or even Gabrielle. Anyone have an opinion? Other great moments: Xena in her red dress. The Celtic song as the ship glides to the ocean. The moment that Xena is reunited on her ship with Caesar. You notice she has her hood up on her cape and as she meets Caesar she pushes the hood back like a bride lifting her veil for her groom. For Xena that is what is happening - she sees herself as joining with Caesar in what she thinks will be a life partnership (which is exactly what happened in WFC). The next great scene is when Xena is betrayed and she is kneeling before Caesar and he alludes to their sexual encounter and you can see Xena's humiliation and embarrassment that she foolishly gave herself to this man and trusted him. Great moment in great episode. CherylA ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Watch again the FIN and > > figure out if it feets with your opinion! > > Well I am not If but I 'll play. Yes Akemi did fool Xena but I don't know if that makes her bad at least in the past. Akemi had a powerful reason to go back to Japa - she had to avenge her family so they could be at rest. She had to use what ever means she had at her disposal. Xena happened to walk into her life at the very moment Akemi needed help. Xena made all kinds of assumptions about Akemi - that she was rich, and that her father would give Xena money and or power to have his daughter back. Akemi did nothing to dissuade Xena from her assumptions but she couldn't if she wanted to get back to Japa. Let's say she told Xena the truth - my father is evil and he murdered my mother, grandparents, and my brothers and sisters. I am going back to Japa to kill him and when I succeed I will kill myself. Also there is absolutely nothing in it for you except maybe a nice sword and some poems. I am afraid she would be lucky if Xena didn't bash her head in right then and there. As for not telling Xena the truth when Xena came back to Japa that is entirely different. If Xena had known the truth I doubt if anything would have changed - oh she wouldn't have let Gabrielle go off to get her body - but that would have been it. Akemi of course probably didn't realize how much Xena had changed since she knew her in the old days. She thought she would have to manipulate Xena to get her to do the right thing. Remember she doesn't meet Xena again until Xena is dead and by now it is too late to prevent Xena from dying. Of course that doesn't explain why Akemi let's Gabrielle go off to get Xena's body without a hint that it might not be a good idea. I wrote before that I thought perhaps Akemi may have thought that the ghost killer might have been able to save the 40,000 without Xena staying dead. Akemi seemed very upset when he died and it was after that she told Xena she would have to stay dead. But I don't know. I think that Akemi didn't behave very honorably the second time she met Xena but I don't think it made her bad person. I think the fact she spent most of her life and death dealing with an evil father may have made her secretive and not very trusting. ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
