Has Joxer never heard of groupies? ;) cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I have the memory-span of a gnat lately. It has a picture of Geraldine decked up like Xena, standing on location, I guess, on a wagon or something. (: Life of ups and downs 06 June 2003 [TABLE NOT SHOWN] By WARWICK RASMUSSEN Geraldine Jacobsen's career has had its ups and downs. Literally. From falling from the rafters of a building on to airbags to being flung in the air off high pressure air rams, the 33-year-old Paeroa woman has followed a career path that this year landed her stunt work in the Tom Cruise movie, The Last Samurai, filmed in Taranaki. She says cast and crew had nothing but good things to say about Cruise, who'd always yell out 'gidday' to people when he walked around the set. She says security was always tight around Cruise, who would arrive by helicopter and be driven around in tinted cars. The scale of the stunt work is something Geraldine had never seen before; some scenes had up to 500 extras and stunt workers, plus horses. She says some amazing scenes have been captured, but it was one of the most dangerous productions she has been involved in. Geraldine began her stunt career a decade ago after learning the street fighting-styled martial art Zen Do Kai. "I was about 22 when I started out. I met someone who knew someone and it carried on from there." She says her Dad, Bill, wasn't fazed by his young daughter's decision to join the danger-filled occupation. "He was pretty relaxed about it. He said 'yeah, get into it'." She comes from a sporting and competitive family. Sister Renee plays netball for Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic, brother Ivan is a fencer and Lavinia works for the Sport Counties Manukau foundation. Geraldine's break came with the fantasy show Hercules, when the pool of female stunt workers was almost non-existent. "I was New Zealand's first fully-employed female stuntie. It was mostly men dressed up in dresses and wigs up until then." When she started her four-year stint on Xena Warrior Princess it would have been difficult for men to fill the role and the outfit of the title character, she jokes. Her job as Xena's stunt double involved harness work, falling into airbags, somersaulting out of trees and fight scenes. When she left Xena, Geraldine worked on short films and in makeup, but was sure her days as a full-time 'stuntie' were over. She says there is definitely no glamour in stunt work. "I don't think you can ever really be prepared for any stunt." She recalls a scene from Xena when she was hanging from the rafters of a building when the power went out and the airbag below deflated. "I was hanging there for a while thinking, what the hell am I doing? Luckily the power came back on and the airbag went back up." Geraldine now fills her life with several jobs and activities, possibly to compensate for the rush stunt work provided. "I think you do get used to that adrenalin kick." Now living back in Paeroa, she has a rural delivery run, works at a service station, takes aerobics classes, is involved with Paeroa netball and is studying anatomy and physiology. She says she is determined to put something back into the community she was raised in. "I want to show people anything's possible, no matter where you come from or who you are." ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I think Jace was definitely based on Liberace, and when the episode came out Liberace was dead and everyone knew that he had been homosexual. So that's a reason to believe that Jace was meant to be the same. Boeotian ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
