I think actually Xena it got it exactly right when she revealed Ares's plot to him. Ares just couldn't stand being that transparent so he just made up the soul dtrading thing so he Xena wouldn't think she was right about everything. Actually if he was just a tad cleverer her could have made a big deal about Gabby again saving Solan's murderer but since he wasn't thinking that far in advanced he missed the opportunity. > > > Hang on. I actually like the idea of Ares saving Gabby by mistake. Ares dashing down the lava pit to save Hope but Hope was already saved by Daddy so Ares caught Gabrielle by mistake. Was almost to the top of the lava pit when he realized he got the wrong girl and just dumped her off and left her to figure out to get the rest of the way out. > > However, why does there need to a be 'reason' to make *any* episode? No there never has to be a reason to make an episode but the TPTB stated their intention to solve the lava pit problem (which never was that much of a problem to be) so they had some obligation to make an episode that solved the mystery without violating cannon. As I mentioned earlier when I first saw the Anchor Bay DVDs out, it also had a copyright for Davis-Panzer on it, so I think everything that was on the original Davis-Panzer set is on the Anchor Bay set, but the Anchor Bay set has more extras (and, it sounds like now, the Best Buy set has that one extra disc)?? I had the impression Becker liked Joxer, but I suppose he could've simply intended the line as humor and it didn't come off as that to some of us." Oh yes I think the professor was deliberately being cruel. I think however it was suppose to be funny and I just don't find hurting some one's feelings as being funny. Yes I have that impression too and certain he a Ted Raimi have had a long association - I just saw Lunatic's In Love this morning - Becker has always had an odd sense of humor. "OK, I know I just defended Joxer, but I loved that scene (as I did the one in BTDT when Xena chakramed him). Sorry. I didn't say I was above laughing at that particular form of cruelty. :-)" I know, I know - I like that scene too. I loved however the scene where Xena chakramed Joxer and then just turned over and went back to sleep leaving Gabby to clean up the mess she made. "LOL! It seemed they were trying to say that Harry had some characteristics of both Xena and Joxer. If so, I don't know that it came off well, but that's why I could overlook things like "pumpkin."" Well perjaps you're right. Maybe that explains Harry because I never saw much of Xena in him. "But that look she gave him about the lock of hair definitely suggested she thought *he* was "touched." " Yeah I loved that look and the way she held the lock as if it mifght have been left over from the day Gabby got lice. "Cande, Cande, Cande. You're really going to try to find the logic in that? If there's ever a medal given for perseverance against all odds, I'd vote for you to get first prize. " Than you I'll hang my medal on the wall next to my chakram. I once was accused by a co-worker of thinking too much perhaps that's a problem I'll have to overcome. "How about TPTB needed a comedy that had some semblance of continuity? Methinks the lava thingy was a lame excuse for such an ep, rather than the driving force." Well actually Gabby down the lava pit is a pretty odd episode to make into a comedy. I suppose you're right. > "Why not both? You obviously like challenges. Maybe do the aired version, then what you think about the extra footage in the Director's Cut. Simple, right? Riiiiight." Actually I'll try that. This weekend was shot simply because I was busy and I didn't want to watch Xena get killed so I watched a bunch of season 2 episodes last night. So FIN will be up sometime next week if I can get myself to watch Xena die and this is from some who really liked FIN. - - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Remember Nothing was interesting when compared to When Fates Collide simply because there was pretty good continuity between the two. In both episodes the person who caused the future to change, Xena and Caesar, both remembered the original world. I also liked how history changed as we went up the time line. In RN because Xena never became a warlord at all Gabrielle was captured by slavers. IN WFC Xena becomes a military leader but obviously because she also become a legitimate political and military leader so was to make Greece safe from slavers. Also apparently the status of women was different than in the original time line since Gabby was married off to Perdicus by her father but went off to be a bard. Giant Killer wasn't bad. Wasn't the guy who played Goliath the same actor who played Macon from Tsunami? Also did you notice the Philistines arguments about why they should rule Israel - they could make the land more productive than the Israelites. I found that an ironic piece of dialog considering what's going on there in the present. Girls Just Want To Have Fun. I no longer get dizzy watching it. I still get a hoot out of Orpheus's head talking while in Joxer's lap - I can just imagine how embarrassing it was for the poor actor to have to have his head between Ted's legs. Also this was the first episode when ROC actually got to look sexy. CherylA ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. (*yea*--X's using her darker voice!! ; ) ), and noticed this *dig* TPTB had for networks, censors, etc., that I didn't notice before: when it's found that G got into the bard competition through deceptive means, the head judge first listens to her audition then says, "Art will never take second place to rules!" and allows her to compete with the others. I wonder how prophetic was this phrase when S3 rolled around and they had to edit The Way in order to satisfy advertisers, boycotters, etc.? ;) Although the writers never explored the moral dilemma of G's lying to get in in the first place....;P I also noticed how, in S1, LL was just *so subtle* in her looks, reactions, etc. Of course, she was great throughout the show, but I think it's especially noticeable in S1/S2 when X was more stoic, so these little looks or reactions of empathy or emotion had so much more of a deeper meaning. In S3-S6 they were pretty much run-of-the-mill, with all that touchy-feely stuff going on.....;P And what was that reference in the credits to Stanley Kubrick about??
