Even if they've forgotten what happened at the time, it would be interesting to hear their reactions as observers. Plus, I think Sharon made a mistake she'll have to correct somehow. I happened to glance at the BTS DVD for AFIN and heard Sharon say Xena met Akemi 26 years before. That would've been about the time Xena was snoozing in the ice cave. I think she should've said about 36 years, since everything in Xena's past happened "10 winters ago" before meeting Gabs. What's that got to do with "Coffee Talk"? Well, Sharon says there's no more BTS footage, so CT seems the best way to make up for such a huge blunder. Okay, so I'm reaching, but I figure any old excuse is good enough to get our LL&ROC together for a retrospective. :-) - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Subtext! ;) It feels like a Season 2 ep to me (oh, I see you said that. We must be right then. Except in my case, that's not a commendation. ;) I felt a little disappointed in the ep. It didn't seem to do anything much, and I felt that Aphrodite was rather wasted. In fact, in many of these last eps, TPTB seemed to have been bringing back favourite old characters or actors - Alti in Send in the Clones; Marton Csokas and Ephiny in Last of the Centaurs; Caesar, Brutus, Alti and Ted Raimi in When Fates Collide; Aphrodite in Many Happy Returns; Ares in Soul Possession; and Borias in Friend in Need. But in some cases, IMO, they were wasted - Marton and Ephiny in Centaurs, and Aphrodite in MHR. Curiously, though I share some of KT's reservations about Fates, I don't think Caesar, Alti, or Ted were wasted in that - their parts were good. > Suddenly Xena does hear trouble in the distance. You'd think Xena would learn, wouldn't ya? I'd be just so tempted to take her back there and chuck her off again..... I guess this is one reason the ep didn't really grip me. I know it was just a pretext to hang the plot on, but I felt 'who cares what the stupid girl believes. Stop wasting time and give her the flick'. I guess my temperament must be a bit like the warlord in Giant Killer - the only good moment in the ep - when Gabby throws herself on top of some guy who's about to get the chop and says dramatically "You'll have to kill me too!" and the warlord says "Okay". ;) > The rescue of the virgin has caused havoc among the zealots. The rescue > also concerns some one else. A young warlord has watched the whole fight > is off t report. In a hidden warlord lair is a very rambunctious warlord > called Ferragus. The young man is his son and he reports that a dark > haired lady warrior rescued the sacrifice. Farragus is shocked into > vulgarity - it seems he has met Xena before and it was not a happy time. And that's another thing... this villain *really* didn't seem to be 'heavy' enough for Xena to even notice. He was more like the sort of villain that (Herc-) Season 5 Alternate Iolaus might end up fighting. OK, so it's a 'Season 2' ep.... > At a waterfall the tree women decide to make camp. Xena tosses Genia her > bedroll and in the time it takes to roll out her blankets, Xena and > Gabrielle have made camp, started a fire, brushed down Argo and are ready > for some skinny-dipping. Now this is a frustrating thing but for once it's *not* the fault of the ep - I don't know where that waterfall is! I can't find it! And I've looked.... I'd love to know where TPTB find all those waterfalls - they must be in the Auckland area, I don't believe they'd take the cast & crew hundreds of miles away just to film a waterfall scene..... (mucho snippo) > Xena then puts the helmet on and off they fly > into the sunset. I think that's the same spot again - where they were going to launch the virgin. (It's also very close to the spot where Xena jumps off the cliff to hide the scroll in Soul Possession). > As is aid this is one of my favorite comedies. No wonder he didn't try to mix it with Xena. He wasn't the only omission - Apollo, OTOH, was a young cocky surfie smartass even more obnoxious than Deimos, I would've *loved* to see Xena take him out, but I guess he found it cooler to be somewhere else at the time. And after his priest had a go and failed so dismally in Eternal Bonds, too. Maybe sometime between 'Motherhood' and 'Coming Home' Xena hunted him down and mopped him up. The line may have seemed like bragging to me under different circumstances, but as it was, Macon had almost gotten Xena drowned by his selfish behavior. I would expect she was pretty pissed and Macon was mighty lucky she didn't punch his lights out when they got back on shore. It also occurs to me that Xena may have been harsh with him in hopes of penetrating his thick skin to the point of actually getting him to take a good critical look at himself--something I doubt he's ever done before. But I don't believe Xena was analyzing any of this; she was just reacting as I would expect anyone would under the circumstances. Actually, I'd say she was exercising a good deal more self control than most would, and I certainly don't believe her intent was to hurt Macon's feelings. In fact, I'd say that would have been practically impossible to do, and Xena would have realized that. I think Xena was just blowing off some steam and she had every right to do so. Gods, I love this list! XWPacolyte Cupid and Psyche... Antony and Cleopatra... I liked SP waaaaay better than MHR.... " Well have the fun is not seeing eye to eye. As for not liking MHR comedy is very subjective thing. Anyway I suspect you didn't like for the very reason I did like it - it was a kind of subtexty episode. I actually thought that in this episode X & G did act more like best friends than other episodes. I think we saw that these two women really liked each other and enjoyed being around each other. I don't think that has anything at all to do with subtext. The Sappho poem yes is subtextual but actually if you asked Sappho to write a poem for your best friend I guess it would always turn out to be subtextual whether you as the asker meant it to be - tha's a bit confusing but I know what I mean. Anway on to Soul Possession and good luck pursuading me about it's merits. CherylA ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
