Sounds like you're slipping into the mysticism camp. << I've also just always figured there was some far-off tree we never saw that Xena always used to ricochet the thing off of. *s* >> Okaaaaay. Long as it's not a mystical tree. <> Yes! Still got at least one foot in my camp. (You can have several feet, btw, in these discussions. I myself had one primary foot and two or three secondary feet.) << In my thinking, it has less to do with the Chakram being sentient or programmable, and more to do with the user's ability to not just be "good" at it but so good that it becomes an extension of themselves. That may be spiritual in some way, but it's my best explanation. For now. :) >> Yes! An "extension" of themselves. Another great explanation to cover all camps. I like it! I knew there was somebody lurking out there who'd bring a unifying perspective to our scatter shots. - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. It just sounds rather pretentious in its phrasing. Xena might say it but not in those words, IMO. (We're talking about "From you - nothing. From me, nothing less" in case everyone's forgotten). cr >> Et tu, cr? "Pretentious: claiming or demanding a position of distinction or merit, especially when unjustified." I guess what's so suprising to me about this is the implication that Xena's response exaggerated her own importance or was intended to make Macon feel "less than," when he himself communicated he didn't see himself as up to doing what Xena did. It's like she walked up to him out of the blue, just to embarrass him -- "Nah nah nah nah nah. I showed I'm better than you." Macon *initiated* the exchange, with something like, "Why did you come back? What did you expect?" He couldn't see the profit or reward in Xena's action. She essentially said, "I didn't expect anything from you. It's what I expect from myself that matters," as well as "I didn't expect any more from you than you were prepared to give --nothing." What would've been unXenalike to me in that situation is either false modesty or complete dismissal of a genuinely asked question. I just don't see how stating what motivates her is somehow uncharacteristic here, to the point of pretension or bragging. - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
