Key to the Kingdom is remarkable because Lucy had never chewed the scenery more, or since! I remembering as I was watching it, thinking that no other actor on television could get away with that much overacting. I was amazed. Anyone else that over the top, I would have rolled my eyes and turned off the set. But with Meg, I bought it. :~) ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Surf the web up to FIVE TIMES FASTER! You mean, outside the Xenaverse? Is there such a thing -- at > least when we're talking XWP? > > -- Ife Yeah. I'm about to get epistemological, now. (I think that's the applicable word). In order to make sense of an episode of a TV series, whether Xena or any other, 95% at least of the ep has to fit in with our everyday background knowledge and notions. For example, we know that if someone gets trapped underwater (e.g. Xena in Coming Home) they'll drown. If you light gunpowder, it will explode. If someone gets hit by an arrow, it's gonna hurt. And we know that Tartarus is an Awful Place. All these things we know, without having to be told them in the script, because we know them from Real Life (TM) or at least established mythology. If there's going to be any difference to that, like, say, that Callisto can stab herself with a sword and be unharmed, then the script has to explain why. To come back to my original query and example, we also know (if we've been to Greece or have a map) where Athens, Tripolis, Thermopylae and Marathon are, and hence why the references to them in OAAA are 'impossible'. Ditto the history. Unless the episode explains why they're all in different places, or that the Xenaverse is entirely in some alternate reality with distorted geography (and why would it be?), they're a huge - umm, YAXI or whatever other term we come up with. I totally agree we're living in a dream world, but dreams, to be convincing, do need to be consistent. :) cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I did find it hard to believe that the villains would buy it, though. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. To me, her singular abilitiess came > from within, from her own learning, efforts, character or skills. The ones > granted to her by someone else (e.g., as Eve's protector) were temporary. > > -- Ife Hmmm. I think controlling the chacky must count as one of her special abilities, since *only* she and Callisto (and in the very last ep, Gabby) were able to control it. And when she lost her identity in The Ring, it cut her. And when it hit her in Ides, it broke. So, even if the chacky's 'magic' was a property of the chacky itself, it would only work for certain very special owners. Very like Excalibur, IIRC. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
