She's pretty serious in it and discusses her various career options. Also very insightful about how Xena affected her. It certainly has been a doubled edged sword. - it brought fame, fortune and certainly a happy marriage. It also brought along with it a lot of stress. Most of it apparrently from the so-called fans who wrote those malicious and nasty diatribes about her and her husband. Mostly she seems upset about the things written about her husband. Well I guess we all now know that the TPTB do read what we write and they take what we say to heart and we can make them down-right miserable if we want - I'd much rather that the fan base be considered a place of joy and that we make the people who gave us so much entertainment happy instead of scaring them to death. I'm sure Lucy knows the vast majority of fans do admire her and her husband but unfortunately it's the negative and mean that sticks with people. That's just a plain shame - I wish people would think before the vent their petty tirades. I honestly believe that the people who do this can't concieve of the people they bash as real with feelings - they have so dehumanized them that they feel free to say anything their nasty little minds can think of. Too bad for them but also too bad for the rest of us who get tainted by the few. Also she had some interesting things to say about how much Renaissance Pictures meant to the film community in New Zealand. Obviously she is very proud of her husbands treatment of his employees but feels he hasn't gotten the respect he deserved. It's quite telling that Lucy is much more concerned over her husband's reputation than her own. Well I've vented. I agree with you 100%. It's maddening that the venom of a few fans has poisoned Lucy's opinion of the entire Xenite community. I've gotten myself in trouble elsewhere for stating this opinion, but it still saddens me that some people are unable to separate fiction from reality. I can understand not liking FIN, but there is no reason to make personal attacks against TPTB, and Rob Tapert in particular for it. Honestly, after reading this interview I'm surprised that Lucy ever agreed to participate in the Pasadena con. Does she really need the money that badly? >Also she had some interesting things to say about how much Renaissance >Pictures meant to the film community in New Zealand. Obviously she is very >proud of her husbands treatment of his employees but feels he hasn't gotten >the respect he deserved. She did seem to be taking a shot at New Line, didn't she? Apparently the LOTR set wasn't as cushy a job as the PacRen sets were. Still, the behind-the-scenes stuff I've seen about LOTR seems to indicate that it was a good group of people through and through, and there haven't been any on-set problems publicized so far. And I do firmly believe that Peter Jackson never would have been able to get LOTR made in NZ as he did without the experience the PacRen employees had gained from working on Herc, Xena and the other shows and movies. I agree that more people should be made aware of that. =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Dorothy Scott, 3/16/03 =============================================== ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Hmmm, I think I interpreted that differently. In sum, she said, "I guess I felt like there were a few people out there that I was working for that were so malevolent and so malicious they clouded everything else." She seemed to be saying such fans poisoned things for *her* -- her feelings about the show, her sense of satisfaction, her anger that Tapert was villified -- not her opinion of all fans. She seemed quite aware that the venomous folks in no way represented the majority of loyal fans, but that unfortunately they left a disproportionately bitter taste in her mouth. That happens. Maybe Pasadena helped remind her of the sweeter moments? At any rate, Lucy's said a lot of things, mostly positive, about Xena fans, so I'm not sure the negative comments should be taken as her only or final opinion. - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I know I am repeating what both Meredith and Cheryl A have said, but I think it critical that someone share the real admiration most fans have for Lucy, Rob, Renee and all who made Xena the icon it became with the actors / creators themselves. That is why I am copying you directly Sharon. As part of Creation, you have the ability to make things right, or at least pass the word on directly to LL. So if possible, I know most fans of the show (who are also fans of the real people involved in it), support the following sentiments: Yes, we all loved "Xena", but our respect for the cast and crew transcends the storyline. As much as the stories touched our hearts, we did come to know a little about Lucy, Renee & Rob.... through interviews and appearances, and the behind the scenes moments, the fan base liked what they saw.... good, genuine human beings putting their all into their profession and their passions. I so admire Lucy for her talent and her integrity. Perhaps because TV media has given us more sneak peaks at the real Lucy than Rob or Renee, (we've seen more of her in the press), it is easier to give her the credit she deserves. Yet, even from the short insights we have seen, all the Xena community deserves praise and recognition and without Rob as the driving force behind the stories, we never would have had 6 great seasons of entertainment. One last thing I want to point out is that the author of the article intimated that Lucy may be typecast in Xena mode forever, like Kevin Sorbo and William Shattner. What he is missing is the depth Lucy Lawless can bring to the screen, big or small. I doubt Kevin or William ever made the audience LOL one minute and cry their eyes out the next. I take issue with anyone who thinks Lucy is in a box. Whether she stays at home, returns to acting or writes a book, Lucy will never stay in a box..... the world will be her oyster and I wish her all the best. Selfishly I would love to see her return to acting, but that is where fans should draw the line. Admire, appreciate and respect the actor and the person, but what they choose to do with their life is their choice so wish them well and thank them for the jewels they have already given us. OK, sorry this was long, I don't usually run off at the mouth, but I am hoping somewhere Lucy hears the good side of what Xena accomplished and how well respected she and the entire cast and crew were.
