Lucy Lawless is on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" TONIGHT, February 11 (well, technically very early in the morning on February 12, but you know what I mean). So if anyone in the Mountain or Pacific time zones sees this in time, I hope it helps!!! And I thought, "You know it's been a successful con when they have to repaint the lobby when you leave." As always, I had a great time. And so did just about everybody else I talked to. There seemed to be very little disappointment this year, at least among the people I was hanging out with. Except of course, some folks were not totally satisfied with the Lucy and Renee appearance as always. I ALWAYS like hearing people talk about their work on the show. But I would also enjoy watching Lucy do a performance or sing a few songs which I had thought was going to be the case. Instead, Lucy and Renee watched clips and talked about them. The hour and a half they were on stage did fly by, once the technical difficulties (partially the equipment, partially the not-so-dynamic duo fumbling over the remote) were resolved. And as usual, they left us wanting more-always a good sign. One excellent piece of news is that Universal put out a call for scripts for a Xena movie. WHOOOOOO-HOOOOOOO~! And Rob and company responded with a package that includes Lucy as Xena and Renee as Gabrielle and Katherine Fugate as the scriptwriter. (Pregnant pause as KT sighs, mostly unheard over the howls of joy from almost everyone else in the Xenaverse.) HOWEVER, I think it's a great idea to have Fugate write it since she has numerous PRODUCED scripts to her credit and including her makes the package far more attractive than if they had used one of their regular TV writers. Like, say RJ Stewart, who wrote all those fabulous Xena "movies" like the Debt, Sin Trades and A Friend In Need and whose input I would love to have seen in a Xena movie. Oh well--a script is merely a blueprint-I've often heard writers complain that what's on the screen is barely recognizable as what they wrote. Thinking about how RenPic managed to make the equivalent of movies on a TV budget and on TV time, just IMAGINE what they could come up with in a movie made on a movie budget in the luxury of movie time. May I repeat, "Whooooo-hoooooo!" Now, Fugate warned us that this is just the preliminary steps and getting an XWP movie made is far from guaranteed. First the studio would have to decide they definitely want to make the film. Then Rob's submission would have to be the one selected. And that's just the beginning-there are numerous and tortuous further hoops to jump through. Getting a movie greenlighted is a long and arduous process and right now this project is nowhere near the traffic light. But, as Fugate said, every step you get through gets you closer to the goal. It was just a great con. Danielle was funnier than I've ever seen her. Jay could be a stand up comedian (his stories about his Mom were beyond hilarious). Paris was also intelligent, witty and charming. Tim was his usual just too pretty self-and boy, do I LOVE his speaking voice. Adrienne has really grown up into a poised, interesting speaker. Sears was his usual whimsical, kind, disarming, charming self. Darian was relaxed and seemed to be having a great time. Meighan was cute and jazzed. Melinda was hilarious and witty. David Frank was very pleasant and funny. Fugate was serious when speaking, sometimes playful and loaded with great news for us. We disgraced ourselves with Vicky by not being able to answer ANY questions about "Shalimar" (but she forgave us with giggles). Claire has calmed down (just a little), Hudson was a crazed as ever and Kevin was not forgotten. All in all, it was a great way to spend the weekend. In my experience with ordering merchandise from Creation, they have always closely toed the line between following and violating the FTC's Mail Or Telephone Order Sales Rule (which covers online orders), which clearly states that once payment is received from a buyer (i.e. once the credit card is charged) they have 30 days to fulfill the order. Any delays must be clearly communicated to all buyers individually; a series of postings from Sharon to a few mailing lists saying "it'll be real soon now, I promise" doesn't count. If someone out there had the inclination and the spare time, I'm sure they would have a basis for a complaint against Creation to the FTC. Mind you, I'm not advocating that -- but I would recommend to Creation's staff that they check out the text of the Rule on the FTC's web site (http://makeashorterlink.com/?J2C852073) and make 100% sure they're not charging customers until they know absolutely that they're going to be able to ship within 30 days of the charge. Precisely. A very likely scenario is that Fugate writes the first draft of the script, then RJ Stewart (or Steve Sears, or whoever) comes in and finishes it. Fugate's name is the only one listed in the writer's credits, but the final product much more closely resembles a Stewart (or Sears) script. Or heck -- Joss Whedon is still doing the occasional rewrite. Or JJ Abrams (creator of _Alias_) -- he's currently writing the new _Superman_ movie. I do sincerely hope a X:WP movie gets greenlighted before LL and ROC hit retirement age. This is good news! Meredith meth@smoe.org P.S. Speaking of _Alias_, which reminds me of Jennifer Garner, which reminds me of _Daredevil_ -- how cool is it that Elektra's weapon is sais! I'm going to see the movie on opening night (yes, Valentine's Day -- the couple that drools together stays together, right? ;). Yahoo! Vivoni" Subject: Re: [chakram-refugees] Creation Fankit #6 FYI 30 days, then don't order from Davis-Panzer, lol. Seriously, I have never had a problem with Creation or Davis-Panzer. Creation has always kept me informed, either by an e-mail from Sharon, the fan club website or from the Creation staff. I have never been left in the loop. In a matter of fact, they did send out an e-mail apologizing for the delay a few weeks prior the delivery of the fan club kit #6. It stated that they were putting the final touches and the delay would be worthwhile as it is the best fan kit so far. It also said that they should be mailed out within the next few weeks. And they were mailed out earlier and it is the best fan kit so far. As to Davis-Panzer (DP) they told me a date, which was never right, and unless I called, I didn't know the status of my order. Either way, when I have inquiried about an order or ordered somthing customer service from both, Creation and DP, have been of the best. Very friendly, respectful, fast, helpful and patient. So, I am not complaining about anything from either company. I have reiceved my items that I have ordered safely and of the best quality. And if there was a problem, such as with my videos from DP, they immediately solved it with no questions asked. Just thought I would put my 2 cents in here. Lucy looked in fine shape. I was wondering a bit about her appearance since I know Kimmel had the Man Show so I thought it would be a bit crude but it wasn't. Lucy had some good natured teasing about refusing a Playboy spread but she had a pretty good come back saying that when Jenny Garfola (spelling) was in the magazine so would she. It was a nice gentle put down saying that the magazine only has women that are sort of plastic and never puts women in that look like real women - if that makes sense. She then introduced a Kiwi group. I guess that was why she was there but it was nice to see her on a talk show again. Also they had the Armenian comic at the Pasadena Con and that was fun. I got to show my mom what the convention looked like. This guy also showed up on stage dressed in a kind of Xena costume. You had to be there. He is rather fat and when he did his thing on stage everyone just stared at him. I thought he was some kind of nut case but I guess it was suppose to be funny. On the Jimmie Kimmel show the complete confusion that met this guy played as a very weak comedic moment. I'll write more latter. This is just a sort news update. The biggest news of course came from Katherine Fulgate. She said she has been approached to write a Xena movie script. That negotiations are in progress with Universal and things are just in the early stages right now. The encouraging thing is that it is being considered a possiblity. There was also which is now on the Creations site as to when the move should take place: before the big sleep; after the big sleep but before FIN; or after FIN. Afetr FIN seems to be winning so go vote if you have an opinion. Anyway I was glad Katherine is being considered. She says she has a chance because she is feature screenwriter and that is what the studios are looking for. I like it because she is fan of Xena so she has a love for the material. I also like the idea that she is a subtext fan. OH NOI see cr cringing but he ain't the only one KT was none too happy either but I'm sure she will speak for herself. Anyway as she said negotiations are just starting. Personally I would prefer a TV miniseries instead of a big screen movie. A miniseries would allow for a bigger and more complex story line. Especially if the film is post-FIN and set in Egypt as was hinted at my Katherine. I just like the idea of Xena running for 2 hours over several nights - more Xena for the buck. Also I enjoyed seeing Lucy and ROC on stage. What Creations had them do was watch film clips and comment. Unfortunately neither of our stars are very adept at running a VCR so we had a few cliches - at one point Lucy got off her chair and was kneeling in front of her TV trying to get the VCR to work. I think perhaps what was needed was someone else to run the clips and ask questions because Luct and Ren kept getting interested in the clips and forgot to talk. They did have some interesting stories. They had clips fron In Sickness and In Hell. Much to Lucy's funny embarrassment. Ren said it was based on the fact that she got Athlet's Foot from her boots and Rob decided to just expand the fungus to the rest of her. Then she added that Lucy picked up lice form her daughter who brought it home from school so that's why Xena was afflicted. Lucy was funny she said still gets itchy when she sees the clips. Ren seemed to enjoy Lucy's discomforted with only the glee a friend can get out of seeing another friend be embarrassed. They also showed a clip from The Abyss. When it came on Lucy covered Ren's eyes. Ren said the scene where she was tied to the spit and covered in mud to be very traumatic. She said for some reason being tied hand and foot, having the mud spread on her and then having the wooden funnel stuck in mouth made her kind of freak. She said she felt very violated and she was suppose to struggle but she just stared because she was afraid if she did struggel she would have broken loose and run away> I suppose what happened is that she just identified too much with what was happening and it probably tapped into some kind of fear we all have being helpless. The Abyss led into talking about Ides of March. Ren was saying that Lucy was really cold when she was in the river. Lucy agreed but then said she didn't get cold enough to get hypothermia but Ren had hypothermia during the crucifixtion scene. Lucy said she was shivering like mad and look over Ren and she was shivering at all. She asked what was going on and Ren telling her end of the story said she just answered back in a real dreamy voice that was just fine. Ren said once she was at that point she wasn't even cold any more but felt just wonderful. At the end of the program Lucy thank everyone for the charitable contributions. The evening was a lot of fun. Lucy seemed a bit subdued perhaps she didn't feel well but Ren was very up and very animated. In a way they reminded me a bit of Xena and Gabby - Xena quiet while Gabby just was a chatty as hell. They both looked very good. Ren looked Texan - jeans, boots, white shirt and I think she put a little weight on since Cherry Hill which is good because I thought she was looking too thin. Lucy looked very nice in leather slacks and colored shirt over a blouse (I think). Her hair is lighter now brown with some red highlights. I'm always surprised that she is very fair in coloring. I also think she could stand to gain about five or ten pounds - Rob should feed her more (the Slavic maternal instincts must be emerging out of me). More latter.
