["Cheryl Ande" ] [chakram-refugees] Happy Solstice Card plus 3D Animation [Cousin Liz > Hmmm, not sure I agree with the "didn't deserve them" part. I do think fighting, scheming, playing with fire, etc. were a form of sex to Xena, but not expressions of physical needs she didn't feel she could or ought to attain otherwise. I saw her as mostly concerned about maintaining focus on her quest or specific missions. I saw her as wanting to avoid using sex as she had in the past. If Draco had reformed in SOP, I could've seen her having a "for old times' sake" tryst with him. It seems she did "do the do" with Marcus in "Mortal Beloved" and with Ulysses. She certainly seemed to be getting cozy with Antony before those assassins interrupted. True, she may have felt she didn't deserve to happily settle down with someone (e.g., that guy with the three kids or Ulysses) at the expense of her dedication to good deeds. But I don't see her as feeling she didn't deserve quality physical relationships if the circumstances were right. Let's face it -- the girl had a busy schedule of lots of work, with her few hours of playtime reserved for Gabrielle. - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Maybe so. Hmmm. Doesn't it add up to something like the 'good girls don't, bad girls do' idea that you were implicitly complaining about (IIRC) a little while back? Only that was in respect of Gabs, I think, in Heart of Darkness wasn't it? Or am I mistaken? cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Date: Mon, 23 Dec 2002 22:12:42 +1300 From: cr Okay, so how *do* you tell which way is North (if the sun's behind clouds)? Maybe Xena taught her, maybe not, it was never explicitly shown. Has Gabby ever in any other ep, needed to know which way was North? Well she must have figured it out eventually. She was able to track Xena although the North country in The Rhinegold. In fact, has it ever been shown that Gabby was good at route-finding and all those Girl Scout things? Apparently she could find her away around a bit - she followed Xena to and out of Amphipolis, she got herself home to Potaedia in The Prodigal, was someplace on her own in It Takes One To Know One, and got up that mountain in Destiny to Nicklio's hut. Having a 'feel' for the lie of the land is different, but 'North' is really a rather artificial concept, actually rather more important to us these days if we're using maps. IMO. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. It was fairly interesting. It explained why women became so important in the films. The martial arts training was handed down to the Chinese opera when the Shaolin Temple was closed. the opera company only had men in it but they preserved the Martial Arts. When film came in the producers wanted to something similar to Chinese opera but the male performers though film beneath them so women were hired to do the male roles. Also men didn't like their wives watching films with men as romantic leads so women took the roles and that was why women became stars the the Asian action films. Also in the documentary there plenty of film clips. One that was notable was of two women fighting - one was on stilts and the other was swinging at her with two sticks. It was exactly like the fight in Crusader with Najara and Xena - Tapert and company must have seen evry Hong Kong film ever made. Also there were scenes from The Bride With White Hair and a Chinese Ghost Story. The Chinese Ghost Story was interesting because of course FIN was based on it but you see the tracking shot that was homage to Evil Dead in the clip. The documentary is interesting so check it out if you get Starz. CherylA ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I've just created a 3D Xena Solstice card for you. It can be found here: http://cousinliz.com/index.html And for anyone who's been wondering what I've been up to for the past four months, you can check out my final project for the 3D Animation class I took this fall if you're interested. It's a three minute animation titled, "LEENA: WARRIOR LIFEGUARD." I tried saving it as both an AVI and MOV file, but at 141Mb and 74Mb respectively, the file sizes were just too big to upload to my site. But with the help of a friend, I instead saved it as a windows media file (WMV) at just 11.8Mb. Still big, but manageable. You can right click and save it from the link below. (I haven't had a chance to create a webpage for it yet) I'm rather happy with how it turned out -- for my first animation, plus my teacher gave me an 'A' for the class. Enjoy. :) http://cousinliz.com/3d/leena.wmv - -- Cousin Liz eas01@fast.net Soulmates Xena Dinosaur Bards http://cousinliz.com ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
