(Director of such films as "Once Were Warriors") Also, I immediately recognized a Maori actor playing one of the main baddie henchmen...he's the guy who gets killed bu having the giant laser beam go straight through his head, the character's name is "Mr. Kil" according to the imdb...anyway, the actor, Lawrence Makoare, (who also, incidentally, played Lurtz the head of the Uruk-hai in "The Fellowship of the Ring," and is to have a part in "The Return of the King" as well), appeared on Xena twice and Hercules once...his Xena appearances being lead warlords in the eps "Fins, Femmes and Gems" and "The Quill is Mightier". I *knew* when I saw him that he'd been on Xena, and I just confirmed it thanks to imdb, yay! Ok, I am waaay too obsessed... ;) > Second, the writing was *so d*mn funny* and tongue-in-cheek and > self-mocking, just like Xena (sometimes I was guffawing so loudly I think > my seat neighbors wanted to have me hauled outta there! ;) ), I hadda wonder > if a XWP writer had been involved in the project in some way (I couldn't Hmm, the bios for the 2 writers indicate no...but who knows? > All in all, a *great* movie, and Brosnan finally comes into his own as > Bond (the first few Bond movies he looked a bit nervous to be taking on > the "mantle", but now he seems relaxed and into it), and I highly > recommend it for anyone who's got XWS now as I do. ;=) It's also of note to fans of the series "Witchblade" that the North Korean villain in the beginning is played by Will Yun Lee, who was Sara Pezzini's partner on that show. Quite a character change!! :) -Sarah- P.S. I just finished watching my new 4-disc special extended version DVD set of "The Fellowship of the Ring," and man, does it kick ass! We're talking about 9 hours of content altogether, for only like $26!! I am soo psyched for "The Two Towers" now...and I can't wait to see our very own Karl Urban as Eomer! :) By the way, the extra cut footage on this dvd includes slightly more dialogue for Marton Csokas as Celeborn, I believe...oh, and Ngila Dickson, X:WP's old costume designer, gets a whole segment about the costumes on the appendices. ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. (he was in far too good shape at the end for me to believe that, >but we really can't have an out-of-shape Bond, now can we? ;P ). I haven't seen the film (and don't plan to, the Bond films hold no interest for me whatsoever), but I was wondering about this scene since I heard more than one friend tell me they were very put off and disturbed by it (one friend actually said she found it quite offensive). Was it as over-the-top and gratuitous as they implied? >Second, the writing was *so d*mn funny* and tongue-in-cheek and >self-mocking, just like Xena (sometimes I was guffawing so loudly I think >my seat neighbors wanted to have me hauled outta there! ;) ), I hadda wonder >if a XWP writer had been involved in the project in some way (I couldn't >stay for the end credits like I usually do because the *d*mn* thing was >2:15 hrs. and I hadda run to the bathroom at the end *really fast*! ;) )? According to IMDB, the writers were Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, neither of whom ever worked with RenPics. But certainly X:WP didn't have the patent on tongue-in-cheek writing. Just because something is humorous doesn't mean it owes a debt to X:WP in any way. >Third, the action/martial arts sequences were very fast-paced and many of >the moves were reminiscent of XWP (Halle Berry's character does several >flips/kicks/jumps just like Xena), though if it had truly been a Xena >movie, Xena woulda been kicking *a** with the guys, and not been >relegated to a girl-girl fight like Halle Berry was at the end. Still, though, that's progress. Bond girls used to be good for nothing but getting Bond's rocks off, and giving him a damsel in distress to rescue. ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://muzak.smoe.org NEXT UP: Chris & Meredith Thompson, 12/8/02 ============================================== ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
