He's broadcasting from Chapel Hill, N.C. Suddenly Michael says there's Xena stuff on the stage (a stand-up, I think) and asks, "Why? Is she from around here?" Someone says that there's a Xena lookalike, who introduces herself as something like Lynn Yanyo. Anyway, she says she looks like Xena on the radio, which suggests she actually looks nothing like the WP in person. This person talks a little about her job, but we learn nothing about why she's going around, in Michael's words, "impersonating Xena." But Michael makes reference to the Xena prop after Lynn's little stint is over, so I got a smile picturing that standing there for a good part of the show. Ah, Xena fans. You never know where one will crop up. - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I take a tv program I'm in love with, and look at different details of it to get my mind tired enough to drift off. I know, might sound a bit like a trivia contest. Nonethe less it works. Like, the other night looking at Star Trek characters and trying to remember which planets, or what places on earth they grew up in. Last night I strated counting all the taverns in the different shows that Gabrielle and Xena visited. Why so many taverns, you may ask. Well, along with the fact that people in a village or town would eat and drink at their local taverns, and gather to chat, people traveling through would stop at taverns also for food and drink, and also sleeping quarters. And since our two heroines were constantly traveling, seems they were in taverns alot. First season had the most. I'm going to list some memories of episodes, and some of my favorite scenes. I didn't cheat by going over to whoosh, but I have used them before to jog my memory. 1) first season Xena trilogy on hercules - "warrior princess: xena and Iolus and hercules in a tavern; hercules later on in a different tavern. Sins of the past - xena's mom's tavern Chariots of war - another tavern where gabrielle hung out waiting for xena. met this nice warlord's son Cradle of Hope Death in Chains Prometheus Path Not Taken Mortal Beloved Callisto Athen's City Academy... Other seasons The Rhingold Gabrielle's hope Punchlines The Quill is Mightier... Favorite couple of tavern scenes Punchlines - the pie fight in the end with the priests with the pointy hats The Quill...the scene in the tavern after gabrielle writes, "and all the drinks are on the house"...and the beer starts flowing from the rafters. That's all for now : ) Lilli ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Also, of course, RenPics probably had a permanent 'tavern' set ;) And it's easy to set up, gives the actors something to do with their hands, and is good for allowing all sorts of exposition to take place. (Sorry, but you did ask why ) Still, nice pastime, it's the sort of trivia thing I love to do too. cr P.S. What do you do when you come to a letter for which there isn't an episode? Like, umm, Q or X? Yep, I loved that scene, too. The whole episode in fact. Here's another couple for your nighty-night list: "Old Ares Had A Farm..." The opening scenes: Xena and Gab enter the pub and belly up to the bar for a couple of pints. Xena decides to give the third degree to some sleaze bag types lurking at the tables. This interrogation erupts into a brawl. When the fighting starts Gabrielle looks like she just wants to enjoy her beer but "oh, brother (heavy sigh)...here we go again"...and she dives into the action. "You Are There..." Ares is slogging around a brothel tavern when he's approached by Nigel "Hey, I'm just trying to get laid!", he yells, complete with beer foam mustache. And the episodes opening scenes are the exterior of a tavern where Xena is unceremoniously tossing Valkyries out the doors and down the steps. Now that I am thinking about this subject I am coming up with lots and lots of episodes with taverns in them. I won't hog the list but if other folks don't kick in I'll be forced to recall them for ya all.
