O'Bannon - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ---- Rockne sent an e-mail to 223hrc, a fellow CaScaper, concerning the cancellation and EM.TV. He asked 223hrc to post it to various boards, so I'm helping her out. Here's what he had to say: "I'm still reeling from the cancellation, am touched beyond words by the outpouring of love and support from all the fans. Very importantly, I want to make it crystal clear to everyone that despite what Anthony said, EM-TV is only a tangental player in the demise of Farscape. The Sci-Fi Channel chose not to pick up the series for season 5, period. To say that they want the show is completely false. Please don't let the real story get clouded. Writing letters to EM-TV in German won't hurt, but it shouldn't be the focus of anyone who is moved to protest. " http://pub120.ezboard.com/ffarscapediscussionunchartedterritories.showMessag e?topicID=3015.topic There is more information on the first website listed in this missive. For what it's worth, I think the effort will not save it for the Sci-Fi channel. Sci-Fi has been into dumping series left and right. The Invisible Man, which had pretty good ratings and a fairly low budget (as compared with FARSCAPE, for example) was also axed. The rumor was that Sci-Fi would not agree to a longer pick-up period than 1 year. There may have been other reasons, but that was the one promoted. bd ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Or, why it can't be? I'd always imagined it had never been cut into a finished product, but obviously it was, it exists, Cheryl's seen it. :) Is Sharon from Creation on this list? If so, maybe she could ask TPTB and tell us. Sharon? cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. For some reason, like TPTT, it incurred some flak, but I liked it. It was low-key, but as you say, a pleasant little comedy before the heavy stuff of Endgame / Ides. (That's TPTT, The Play's The Thing, not TPTB, who should be used to collecting flak by now ;) > There are some nice moments here. I thought Xena was more exasperated over Cyrene's habit of addressing her as if she was ten years old. One thing that was rather noticeable was the great sense of disunity and the touching disloyalty shown by almost everybody. Our favourite regular characters could hardly wait to point suspicion at each other. > > 5. Where is Minya's thespian companion Paulina?. First Hower goes missing > and now Paulina - I'm beginning to wonder if there is cellar somewhere > where Minya buries old boy friends and thespians. Yeah, but she does have *the* line of the episode, after Discord announces in frustration that she can't take retribution on Argo: Discord: But I can't take back a horse. I don't *do* animals. Minya: That's not what _I_ heard. Discord, by the way, is one of my favourite minor characters, Meighan Desmond is just so good as the bitchy juvenile Goddess of Skank (Aphrodite's name for her). The real-life Meighan Desmond, judging by the photos from the Pasadena 2000 con, looks a lot less Gothic and much more attractive. (They're on her fan site - yes she has a fan site!, I just found it in Google, http://meighandesmond.net). But really, she was very convincing as the keen-to-justify-her-promotion Goddess of Retribution, did anyone doubt that she'd carry out her threat to make sure she punished the murderer by simply frying everybody? cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I'm sure sabre toothed tigers died out long before 'cave /men' (i.e. Neanderthals and the like) came on the scene, and of course the /proto-Amazons were well after caveman days. But still, Xena never took /much notice of chronology, so I guess we should be used to it. :) Actually saber tooth tigers died out around 10,000 BC, according to the encyclopedia. There was a documentary on recently called Who Killed the Mega-Beasts?, about the disappearance of many species of large mammals several thousand years ago. Things like giant sloths. They concluded that the species were killed off by humans, as they expanded around the world. Some may have been killed by diseases introduced to new locations by migrating humans, others were simply hunted and wiped out. Large mammals usually had small populations. As soon as humans developed means to kill them, such as snares, traps, pits, spears etc., they were doomed. XWP occasionally made references to times earlier than the ancient Greeks. There was a mention of Noah's Ark in the mystery-at-the-inn episode. There were the Titans, who came before the gods in Greek myth. And in the sixth season XWP supposedly was planing a caveman episode, with ancestors of Xena and Gabrielle. If the episode had been made it would probably have been modeled on the Hammer caveman films of the 1960s, especially the first, One Million Years B.C., the one in which Raquel Welch in a fur bikini was carried away by a pterodactyl. I was looking forward to seeing Gabrielle in a fur bikini, being carried away by a pterodactyl -- and seeing Xena's explosive reaction. The episode Prometheus had a Titan (Prometheus, a good Titan one week after the bad or mixed Titans of The Titans) and a big bird like a pterodactyl, which carried Xena off and did not survive the experience. As for Amazon High, putting the cavemen with a saber tooth tiger was accurate, but putting them both with the earliest Amazons was a stretch. But since the Amazons are mythical, why not?
