Which was the one good thing about being a year behind the US ;) cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Everyone is stuck in the Hilton so there is a lot of socializing. I got together with old acquaintenances from past Cons - Freddy and Pat, Roz from Texas who gave some good advice about my elderly cat which I took, Chantal, two Susan's and I met Lee Daily from this list and had very good time chatting with him. This was one of the best attended cons that I remember for one reason - Renee O'Connor's appearance. Friday was pre-registration and Claire Stanisfield and Danielle Cormack in the Virginia dialogues excerpts and a few other things. Clair didn't do much in the Monologs it was mostly Danielle which makes sense since is doing it New Zealand now a one woman show. DC was very funny in her monolog about all the various moans that a woman has heard in her life time. The other bits were lost due to atrocious sound. Danielle played an old woman and although most of dialogue was lost, at lest to me, her body language was excellent. Act 2 was two short films by CS - Two Dolls In Love and At Last...The Final Conquest. They were inspired by the fan fictions story Two Incredible Dolls In Love (wrong title). The first film had Claire as Alti and Hudson as Callisto doing the voices of their respective dolls falling in love while searching for Xena's head, which kept floating by at odd times. The second film stared CS as the now jilted Alti meeting up with a horse loving doll played by Danielle. The films are amusing but a lot of jokes were lost because of the bad sound. Act 3 was a reading of a fan fiction story Friends In Need Therapy. CS and DC were having a really great time on stage. Dressed in matching black flapper dresses and wearing pink and blue wigs. They were very funny as THE TAPERT got blamed for all the woes of the fans. Saturday began for at a yoga class taught by Hudson. I have never done yoga before and being not of svelte condition I was wondering how I would do. I did OK - I survived and attempted all the positions except pigeon which involves stretch one leg behind you and bending your knee up to you head as you lay over it - I did two legged pigeon which consists of sitting crossed leg - my back and knees were very happy with me. After a brief nap we had we had a very healthy and leafy lunch with really good cookies oddly enough. All joking aside Hudson is very good teacher, even I could tell that. She is serious and caring. She makes sure she can see all her students and would walk around and correct the positions. She asked me a number of times how I was doing and corrected me once. At the end we all had nice rest while Hudson went over us all with sage incense. We then got in a circle and chanted. This was very different Hudson than we normally see at the Cons. Not a lot of joking around and you could tell she cared very much about the spiritual side of yoga - I was very impressed by her. Saturday afternoon the convention got off to a good start. Gary Berman came out and ask how many people would be interested in Xena DVDs. It seems Creations has been approached about doing them with the possibility of commentary by Lucy and Renee. He was asking if we knew of any other DVDs - I knew Columbia House had them but some one said CH never even finished the first season before stopping production (I'm not surprised for as much as we have bitched at Panzar Davis their tape prices were good and it was nice to get a whole season at a time). So get thee over to Universal feedback make sure they know you want DVDs - keep the pressure up gang. Claire came out. She is always in high spirits but this time seemed particularly happy. It seems she and friend have started a clothing line involving tees. She was very excited about it and hopes to have the line in the stores, I think next year. I don't remember the line's name - sorry but Claire has website so you can find out I'm sure. She also said she had decided to give up acting - she was tired of being too tall or not the right look-but suddenly she got a call to read for Quentin Tarratino. She said he was a Xena fan and although she apparently didn't get the part she has becomes friends with him. She said she hoped to introduce him to Lucy. Claire is a very militant Lucy friend and she is always very adamant that Lucy should be a movie star. She also said she had dinner just recently with Lucy and Rob - that despite being THE TAPERT he made very good steak and potatoes. She said he was building a studio in New Zealand and although she didn't know what he was up to she thought perhaps he had a new show in mind. After and auction and the actress from Farscape (I was having a during with Lee at this point), Danielle Cormack came out. She wore a very interesting dress - sort what a 12 twelve year old would wear on Easter - a dirndl with puffy sleeves . She began by thanking us for our support of Xena and especially of Kevin Smith. She said the Xena fans had been more supportive of him and than New Zealand had ever been. She seemed upset that NZ didn't support their acting community or for that matter their most famous product Xena. She also said she has come to appreciate more how much her role as Ephiny has meant to people. When she got the job she just viewed it as a job like any other and now she is surprised how well loved that character has become and seemed very touched by affection Xena fans have shown her. Someone asked about who was responsible for killing Ephiny. She said it was joint decision. When she was approached during End Game it was postulated that Ephiny would be in a coma. Danielle felt that Ephiny wasn't progressing very much as a character - she had become basically Gabrielle's confident and DC would have liked to explore Ephiny's dark side which we saw a little of in Hooves and Harlots. She figured that this wasn't going to happen and dramatically it would be better to have Ephiny killed than just being in a coma. Also DC said every actor loves to do death scenes and she was going for a big dramatic one and she said it was but it was unfortunately cut for time - drat! I don't want it to sound like she was serious - no she was very funny and told some funny stories about doing her Janis Joplin songs at the CON with Kevin. She was particularly funny about having tight jeans on singing a gut wrenching Janice song and suddenly having to go wee. She also turned around and saw herself on the big screen behind her and was amazed at how truly puffy her sleeves were. I hope she does some more cons so other fans can see her - she was great. Well more later. I'll save Renee for the next post. Hey I know the power of a cliff-hanger.
