Ooookay. I had promised a report regarding the London COW convention, and here it is (at least, here's the beginning... it's going to be a long thing!) First of all let me mention my first guardian angel for the weekend, the adorable lady who made it possible for me to actually get to the convention... the one and only Liz Wilson! I had been having problems contacting the organizers (these f'@# people deserve a post all for them!!) and she did all the job for me! AND, I couldn't even thank her at the convention, since she worked ALL THE WEEKEND! I mean, there's Hudson in town, and she WORKS?!?!?! Anyway, the Chariots of War conv was at the Thistle Heathrow park hotel, which was not out of hand, no... not far, no... not out of the world, no... it was MORE of that all!! The first day, to realize how far it was (and to save 3 pounds) we walked there from Heathrow. Did you know that there a plane takes off every minute? Well, I lost count well after 40 of them before we reached it... I was with an Italian Xenite friend, Thesia, and her sister. Anyway, she had been at Pasadena with me too, and as soon as we reached the hotel we agreed that this convention was a completely different thing than the Creation's. Everything seemed more relaxed. Fans looked calmer (except a couple of dudes that looked like stalkers a mile away), the staff was less visible and more friendly, everything looked (and was) smaller, more intimate, less 'hyped'. I loved that. And the guests did too, since they were constantly moving around people, even if they were without escorts. We spotted some other Italians and Petra, my second guardian angel, and moved around the shopping booths... smaller they were too. They had really little stuff to sell, and sold out almost immediately the few items I was looking for. No problem, since the prices were exaggerated anyway. Then the opening ceremony began, about an hour later than planned (first of a LONG series of things late on schedule). Sean, (the organizer) a man I learned to hate during the weekend, had a card up his sleeve: Paris Jefferson was also among the guests! This made me extremely happy, since I love Athena and the way she portrayed it. She looks smaller that on tv, and very shy. She said a couple of sentences and left. But I remained in awe of her eyes and voice. Maaan, what a voice she has! Then Tim O. came in, and was crazy as usual. He made a few jokes about Americans owing the English for the Revolution, but then the English were owing the Americans for WWII, so things were even. He feigned being drunk because of English beer and left, yelling that he was "READY TO RUMMMBBLEEEEEE!!" Then it was Melinda Clarke's time, and boy is she beautiful!! She looked a little intimidated and said she was a 'con virgin' since this was her first time at a convention, but her friend Hudson had given her a couple of advices. Just after her came Claire's, that as expected said, "if she's a con virgin then I'm a con whore!!". She said that she had a few surprises ready for us. Adrienne was next, and I found her really changed since Pasadena. She looked more confident and relaxed. And she's always incredibly sweet. This time she really made me forget how I hate Livia and Eve. Last was the one, the only, HUDSON. I_love_that_woman!!!! She said that they weren't supposed to be on stage that evening, but Sean (the bast*** had had a decent idea) had asked if they could go up and tease us a bit. "Tease?" she said. "Sean, SURE we CAN do that!!" And started moving around in a sexual kinda way, while the crowd went crazy. Then after a few seconds she straightened and with her sweetest smile asks, "Ok, are we done now? Can I go?" LOL. Obviously she stayed and said how happy she was to be there etc etc and promised us that we were going to have a great weekend. She kept her promise. Then the evening was virtually over. As the disco started we left since about 2 hours of travel awaited us (we weren't staying at the Thistle) and while we were leaving Melinda passed us by and addressed us, smiling. "Hi, you ok?" "Sure!" we replied, stunned that she was actually talking to us by her choice. "How are *you*?" I asked her, since she seemed a bit stiff... "Oh, I'm GREAT!" her voice replied, but her body was saying "I'm SCARED SHITLESS!!!" I shook my head thinking at how terrible the following day was going to be for her... the con virgin. I would have never imagined what she was about to do. She was about to be one of the biggest surprises of my life. It's saturday morning and we're back at the Thistle. It's possible to book a photo session with any of the guests, but the price looks really HIGH so I decide to wait until the afternoon and then decide. Terribly wrong decision, that I'll pay dearly the following day, as I'll explain later. The main room has been rearranged in the typical convention fashion, no tables and cinema-like chairs. There's a lot more people, around 500. We take a really nice seat (4th row more or less) and WAIT. And wait. And wait. They should have been airing a Xena episode meanwhile, but nope. Anyway, half an hour late, they start. First guest is Jeff Smart, a special effect guy, who showed a behind the scenes clip of Herc and Xena, focused on props and monsters. I found it interesting. The guy is very friendly, too. Then Tim Omundson is on. He's extremely elegant, as usual. He spoke of just about everything... when he could understand the questions!! I felt an evil joy inside when he had to get down the stage and get close to a Scottish girl to try and understand what she was saying (nobody could! But he had problems more than once... and that's his own language!). After 3 good minutes of useless tries, she changed her LONG question and in two words, asked about the controversy around The Way. He was very pc, saying that TPTB had been extremely careful on the whole issue, that they had an expert that had to make sure that nobody could be offended, that he never wanted to offend anybody, that he can't imagine why anybody was actually offended, but that he doesn't know a thing about hindus, so if they were it means that there was something offensive after all, and that he's deeply sorry for it. He'd make a really good politician. He showed some pics of her daughter (a cutie) and said that when she was born he didn't think it was such a big deal (and he thought he was a tough guy because of it) but then when she first smiled at him, he almost fainted. Then he spoke about a dinner he had with his formerly wild friends... now they're all married with children and they've all turned into mushy fathers, always ready to make funny faces and noises just to get a smile from their babies. He said that he still has to have his vengeance on Ted for that joke he played on him when he first went on the set of XWP, but he is in no hurry, since life is long. He's been hilarious when he recalled of a sunday morning when he was floored after a loong saturday of filming. It's 8am and the phone rings. It's Lucy, who has a day off and invites him to a tour of Auckland. He didn't really feel like it, but after all LL had barely a day off in a month, and was offering it to him, so how could he refuse the honor she was making to him? And off they went... When they arrived at a small game park, Lucy all excited said "I want to show you something!" It was one of those bungee-things in which you get strapped to a metallic chair, and then some elastic get released and you're shot several meters in the air and bounce up and down some times and then they put you back on the floor. Anyway, LL was all "Let's do it!" while he didn't really feel like it... but he didn't want to look like a scared puppy, so accepted. They went on it together, and slowly the staff prepared the thing then shot them up. He said that they bounced up and down several times, heads down too, and he "screamed like a girl" while LL laughed her ass off (anyone surprised?). When they were back, Lucy was all, "Wow, what a rush! Let's do it again!" and what could he do? Obviously he had to say "Yeah, sure, why not..." She had him do it three times!! LOL "She's INSANE, let me tell you!!" he concluded. He said that the life of the actor is full of sacrifices, like having no economic security, being far from the family etc, but he believes it's worth it. He said that the best day of his life was a morning in NZ when they were about to shoot a crucifixion scene (was it FA or IOM? He wasn't sure). He said that it was one of the most beautiful dawn he had ever seen, and he realized how lucky he was being in such a beautiful place, with people so talented, being paid to do what he loves to do, and hopes to never forget that moment. He said that he's been in several eps of a tv show (sorry don't remember the title) where he has a recurring character, the boss of the main (female) character. He says that she always does things to annoy him, so his character is constantly exasperated. He's "a dork", btw. If I remember correctly he said that this role isn't very challenging, it's a bit boring, but that the colleagues are really cool. He said that getting in and out of that character is easier than doing it with Eli's. He said something about Eli, I don't remember if he said that the beard was the best or the worst thing of it. He changed a bit his version regarding the scene with Ares in Chakram: I remember that in Pasadena he had said that originally Eli was supposed to kick Ares' butt (and he was looking fwd to it) but then Kevin had convinced the director to make it a willpower scene only. He said that he resented a bit Kevin for it. Now, he said that the scene was really cool and Kevin was great in it. That Eli and Ares couldn't really have a battle because they were exact opposites and the result would have been destructive yadda yadda. Not a word about Kevin's role in the way that scene turned up. About Kevin Smith he said that they were big buddies and that every time he was in LA they went out and had a great time, and he seemed moved by the memory. All the guests were when they talked about him, but I was surprised seeing that the more moved was Paris Jefferson. After all, she worked with him for a couple of eps at most... Anyway, after Tim it was Claire's time. First she gave 5 pounds to one of the staff members, in case she said f*** words. Well, 5 pounds weren't enough. Anyone surprised? LOL She looked great. I didn't remember her legs were so LONG! She said she had a surprise for us: the dollie video she showed in, Pasadena? Cherry Hill? I dunno, I only know it was histerical! And she said that she was being extra nice to Melinda Clarke because she hoped to have her voice as Velaska in one of the sequels she's planning (the next will feature Ephiny). Then she said that she was a bit concerned for the way the first XXX revue would have been received by the fans, and that she breathed a BIG breath of relief when the crowd went wild reading the "FAN" and "FICTION" words. She repeated the usual things, about Alti's voice, Caesar's murder in WFC (added than during that scene Karl Urban was farting all the time, and he believed it was funny...) and her idea about FIN. Then someone asked her of the Taboo video. She then recalled being in Pasadena and needing somebody else to put in the hot tub with Alex and Claudia, so "I saw this nice girl in the hotel's elevator and went to her and said I needed her and basically threw the poor girl into the hot tub". I think that everyone thought, "POOR girl????" LOL Then she said that she believes that Star Trek fans are a bit scary, and that they don't love her very much because in a sci-fi convention she told them that the best fandom is Xena's. On sunday Claire and Tim were on stage together. They were histerical! They jumped on stage on the music of a punk song, he wore jeans and a t-shirt with the UK flag and that image of the Queen that the Sex Pistols used way back. He had his hair up as a punk, and a lot of make up on his eyes. On an arm he had a fake tattoo saying ELI IS A FAG. LOL Claire wore a black vinyl mini-skirt. They danced as if they were possessed for a while, and then explained that it was an homage to the country they were in. They spoke mostly about life as actors, their first role (Claire's was on the movie The Doors, I didn't know it), and how difficult it is to audition. Claire said she wants to quit acting, but if some nice role is offered to her she wouldn't mind. She'd like a kick-ass role (and then she recalled her audition with Tarantino of which Petra wrote earlier). I had a moment of madness and asked a question myself... I asked her about the actress that played uber-Alti in Betwen the Lines. She said that she's a NZer, and that they did not practice together moves, attitiudes etc., yet the woman did an outstandng job. Too bad that she wanted to do the whole ep... Claire said that she was extremely disappointed when she learned that this American was coming to take the role after the first scenes. Somebody asked what would have happened if Eli and Alti met. Tim went in full Eli mode. "Alti, stop fighting... what's all this anger you have?... How was your childhood?... Had you any issues with momma?" LOL When she stopped laughing, Claire grabbed his neck Alti-way and basically it was over, because as Tim said, she had about 3.000 years of memories among which to choose to torture him, being Eli... whatver he was. In the end they were asked to swap clothes and they did behind the screen... but they was very visible anyway. Claire has a great profile... Do you need to know the look of Tim's boxers? Ah, a girl gave Claire 20 pounds for her swearing problem and in the end she hadn't consumed them all... so she lefr the stage murmuring "fuckit fuckit fuckit!!" LOL In the end, from 0 to 10, Tim was worth a 7,5 while Claire a 8!
