Great scores, all around, for a tv show that usually had only one epic, if that, per season - Season VI had 3 epics. (I consider When Fates Collide an epic in itself ;) Season VI was running on all cylinders, IMO, pulling the best out of everyone. Damned skimpy Joe should get nominated twice. Those that have caught me listening to bits and pieces here and there of the final soundtrack have *always* asked me what it was, because it was so moving and expressive. They're always kinda shocked [in varying degrees, lol] that it's from Xena. S. And it's a forking shame that XWP, among other shows, got passed over for awards otherwise. - --- Cheryl Ande wrote: > I was wondering if he would have been eligible for a Emmy this year. > I think > it was a fluke timing thing (not a fluke for the nomination which he > deserves) > but that he was eligible. Thanks for the count. Actually, IMO, the touches while hurrying Xena along and the hug do mean something. They may not be subtextual but considering we're talking about Gab touching Xena, a former warlord and ultra stoic warrior, I think it shows how much Xena has allowed Gab into her life. While Gab is a naturally touchy feely type of person, I think that if anyone other than Gab touched Xena like Gab touched her would get a kick punch, kick or head butt from Xena. And it never gets scripted for the other characters? > > Inguiring minds want to know Hmmm, interesting question. Now, I can remember others touching her but she didn't always look pleased about it. I'd say there were two categories of touches that Xena allowed - touches that occurred while she was following a plan to gain power or defeat (in other words when she was in warlord/warrior mode) and touches from people that she liked/loved/lusted after. IMO, some characters like Ares, Antony and Caesar could fall into both categories. BUT, although she let other characters touch her, nobody, IMO, gave her the affectionate, comforting, reassuring arm, back, shoulder, etc. touches and hugs that Gabrielle did. And Xena loved every minute of it. Debbie Gabsfan@aol.com "I'll rise, but I refuse to shine." I hoped that XWP would have gotten a nomination for costuming at some point in its career (season 6 was really outstanding) but I have always believed the Emmys have a tendency to pretty conservative in its outlook (it likes to nominate network shows or trendy cable offerings). The fact that XWP had a mostly foreign crew and was syndicated didn't help. I think Jow DoLuca's restige outside of XWP makes him more acceptable to the nominating committee, thankfully. I think it is odd that Buffy didn't get any nonminations, that I know of. I thought this year might have been it's year but then again genre shows seldom get nominated either. By the way just quickly if you are a Buffy fan what do you think of Buffy continuing on without SMG after this upcoming season. Seems like she's thinking of leaving and this is being talked about. > S. > And it's a forking shame that XWP, among other shows, got passed over > for awards otherwise. ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Xena and Gabrielle are so afraid that they will hurt the other that they trust someone they shouldn't. Najara then takes advantage of this. She certainly plays on Gabrielle's desire to help others with the hospice and she deftly plays on Xena's fears of hurting Gabrielle. It doesn't asspear she had any intenetion of doing this at first but apparently she knew how to seize an opportunity when presented. I guess the trick is to make the characters convincing enough that the audience willingly 'suspends its disbelief' as the phrase goes. For me, personally, Kathryn Morris didn't quite manage that. It's not so much that she's thin, as that she's a small person. Hudson managed it, notwithstanding her size, because she was so intense, but she's one in a thousand. Actors like Claire Stansfield, or LL, or Claudia Black, being taller, start off with an advantage there. ROC of course is not so tall, but she's much more heavily muscled. I guess XWP, and Herc even more so, sometimes got around this by using bodybuilders. Umm, Karen Shepherd (the Enforcer), Cynthia Rothrock (Enforcer 2), Cory Everson (Atalanta), Vicky Pratt (Cyane), I believe were all into martial arts or bodybuilding. cr ... who thinks gin is a particularly evil spirit and much prefers vodka ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
