I was just starting to get my life back. I'll scream if somebody else already counted the touches in the following two eps: ATHENS CITYACADEMY OF THE PERFORMING BARDS: Another Xena-lite ep, so not much happening. There's one of those *possible* touches near the beginning, when X tells G, "Now go get your dream." It's a close-up where X's shoulder moves just enough to give the distinct impression that she'a patting G's arm. I'm thinking there'll have to be a "PT" (possible touch) category. [On a side note regarding the discussion of G's barding skills, there were at least four times when G's various audiences enthusiastically applauded her, three times when "those in the know" (e.g., senior bard, judges, other contestants) stuck up for her talents, one instance when she moved the judges (even those who wanted to throw her out) to tears, and 3-4 other bards whom she inspired (including Homer). Seemed pretty impressive to me.] A FISTFUL OF DINARS: 1. After X tells her about the Titans key, G goes off to get Argo. X's body blocks a good view, but it looks very much like G touches X's arm. PT? 2. At the bridge, X holds G back, then nudges her forward. 3. When the bridge collapses, X flies over to put her arm around G and help push her up. 4. In the cave, X protectively puts her hand against G as rocks fall. 5. To save G from the assassin, X's ex (Petrocles) pushes G into X. Again, it's a close-up, but you gotta assume X catches G. PT? 6. Definite dual touching at the end, as G takes hold of X's hand and X puts her arm around G's shoulder. Are we done yet? - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Since FIN was delayed and aired in June last year, it made the cut. It's funny, as big of a music nut as I am, I hardly ever notice soundtrack music in television shows. I wouldn't recognize any bit of incidental music from _Buffy_, for example (with the exception of the theme song and the stuff from the musical, of course!) ... one of my obsessed Buffyfan friends talks a lot about "Buffy and Angel's love theme" and the variations thereof that appear from time to time in what he says are Significant Moments. That's news to me: I didn't even know there *was* music playing in those scenes. I can't quite figure out why that is. I did, however, always notice the music on X:WP. I think that's more of a testament to LoDuca's prowess than anything else I could put into words. (And I always noticed the music on _Babylon 5_, too -- Christopher Franke is up there with LoDuca, no question about it.) > No nominations?? :( Or - nominations for every > category having to do > with best dramatic hairstyling and best application > of makeup, I bet. Bingo. Best hairstyling and best makeup (prosthetic). The musical episode did get nominated for "Best Music Direction", whoop-dee-doo. That's three whole nominations -- which just may be a best for the series, but really. I hope the Philistine fignut who was responsible for the musical getting "inadvertently omitted" from the nomination ballot (conspiracy theorist, see?) is proud of himself. :P As much of an _Alias_ fan as I am (and I really am happy for Jennifer Garner, who was nominated for Best Actress in a Dramatic Series), I am rather bitter to see that it got nominated in its first season in all of the categories _Buffy_ should have been getting its sixth set of nominations in. Ah, well. As one of the many opinion pieces I've read in the past few days imploring the Academy to remove its head from its collective posterior noted, most of the shows that are now recognized as the best ever never received an Emmy. Many of them were never even nominated. So _Buffy_ and X:WP are in good company. And each year, more and more people are realizing that the Emmys are as big of a crock as the Grammys (and, increasingly, the Oscars) are. If anything, the lack of awards goes to prove just how good the shows really are. Meredith meth@smoe.org Yahoo! I think it was a fluke timing thing (not a fluke for the nomination which he deserves) but that he was eligible. Last year I think the official season end for nominations was June 26th or something and FIN 2 was aired after that date so technically it was actually aired in this TV season. So Joe actually got 2 nominations for season 6 the Ring last year and now for FIN 2. I hope he wins the Taiko drums in the battle was outstanding and the eight minute suite Fighting Hodoshi is just a great piece of symphonic music. The other day I had my car in at the mechanic and as the guy was driving it into the bay the Taiko drum music was on and he yelled at me that I had great taste in music and he certainly didn't know that it was a Xena soundtrack. I wonder how the music is judged. Do they watch the episode and see how it enhances the film which makes sense or do they just listen to the music? It's a series of short (as in, around 300 words) stories by Michael Swanwick based on the periodic table of the elements. This week's installment is based on Xenon, and is called "Warrior Princess". http://www.scifi.com/scifiction/periodictable.html It's not a particularly well-written story (IMHO), but it's amusing nonetheless. Enjoy! Meredith meth@smoe.org ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
