If it was out of camera range, I wonder how much of that touching was from direction and how much was actually Lucy and Renee adding it themselves. Here's my off the top of the head theory. I think that in the beginning, a lot of the "little touches" that Sharon was referring to were things that Lucy and Renee added themselves and were not really focused on by TBTP. When the fans noticed and expressed how much they liked it, TPTB began to focus on the touches to feed the relationship/subtext angle. This is getting interesting.
