But then, who in the general public is going to bother to buy the DVD or be that interested in the commentary? I think those who are, will know or be able to figure out what the technicalities mean. Xena is an 'effects show' and it isn't going to be easy to talk about the 'behind the scenes' without going into some technicalities. IMO. Besides, if I hear a technical term I don't understand, it's a prompt for me to look it up and learn something. But they did OK - Michelle Ang (Akemi) was excellent, Kao the warlord, Ghost-killer, Yodoshi, the monk, the sword-maker, and Yodoshi's stooge in the tea-house were all OK, IMO. It was only the general with the amazing Aussie accent who was mis-cast. I imagine it was the extras for the crowd scenes they had trouble getting enough of, and they certainly weren't going to fly them in at great expense, I think. If they had flown any in, they would have done better to get them from Hong Kong - it would have been much less expensive. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Well to some extent it would be known to the general public, a lot of people learned about hitting their mark in high school plays. Most of the under 25 generation know what CGI is. Some of it would be inaccessible but most could be gleaned from context. Besides generally the "bonus tracks" are oriented towards film/video nuts and tend to contain jargon. > For those hoping for a 7th season, LL pretty much confirmed what the rest > of us knew: she was *dang-tired* at the end of S6, and took 6 mos. to > recouperate from XWP. By now she might consider a series of made for TV movies, but I can't see her voluntarily going back to that hectic pace. but I > still couldn't figure out why they didn't fix it by flying in actors from > LA or from here in Hawai'i to play those roles which were so crucial to > the story, especially since it was set in Japan. because Rob's frugal, well actually CHEAP! And has to be to produce a show like this. > It's interesting to note that both stars, LL and ROC, ended up not > agreeing at all about the subtext issue, even as late as this DVD came > out. I think it's in both of their career interests to not play up to the subtext too much. They don't want to be type cast in studios' alleged little minds. After all, they *are* currently unemployed after a 6-7 year gig. LeeD Warrior Jester ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. There were two moments in my interviews with Lucy and Renee in this issue where they spoke about each other that I thought you might enjoy. Here's Lucy's response when I asked if she would have chosen the 40,000 souls over Gabrielle. "I really love that Gabrielle says, 'I don't care,'" Lucy said softly. "I love that so much. It was human and so very real. I wish we could have explored that idea. Not that it needed to be explored more. It was all there in Renee's face. But it was so interesting to me." Here's a bit of the conversation I had with Renee about me describing Lucy as "loopy." "I talked with Lucy last Tuesday and it came up that when people ask me what Lucy's really like, I list a few things and then I say she's also kind of loopy." Renee burst out laughing. "She didn't seem offended and I said she's like Meg. Meg's loopy," I explained. "Meg gets this look on her face and her elbows go out. It's a goofy sense of humor that Lucy also has that's unexpected . . ." ". . . because she's so strikingly beautiful," Renee chimed in. "You wouldn't expect that from someone who looks the way Lucy does. She looks like a femme fatale and to be goofy and loopy really throws you."
