Be great if Lucy gets involved in some of these projects! GREAT NEWS! Raimi, Tapert Reteam As Producers Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is reteaming with his Evil Dead partner Rob Tapert and Germany's Senator Entertainment to launch a new company that will produce low-budget SF, horror and fantasy movies, Variety reported. Under the three-year deal, Raimi and Tapert will produce a number of titles that will be fully financed by Senator, which will retain worldwide distribution rights to the films, the trade paper reported. Raimi is not yet expected to direct any of the movies, nor appear in them, Variety reported. No specific projects have been announced. Raimi and Tapert will reportedly be looking for young directors and existing development projects. - ---- Source: Sci-Fi Wire And further to that article there was another article on the first project to be produced by Rob and Sam: Sam Raimi is already worrying about what's lurking in his closet or underneath the bed. "The Boogeyman" will be the first horror production under the "Spider-Man" helmer's newly inked Senator deal. Raimi and partner Rob Tapert will produce the pic, which is expected to start shooting this fall. Raimi takes up helming duties on "Spider-Man 2" for Sony in early 2003. Pic, penned by Eric Kripke, is the story of a young man who is traumatized by memories of terrible things he experienced as a child in his own bedroom. Years later, after the tragic loss of his father, the young man reluctantly returns to the house and faces his fears of a being that could be real or merely a figment of his imagination. "The boogeyman is a mythical character that is the stuff of stories of generations," Raimi tells Variety. "He is a horrible creature that consumes human beings whole and exists in a thousand different forms in children's imaginations, living in the shadows of the clothes hung in the closet or in the darkest regions underneath the bed." Adds Raimi, "We wanted to have a company in which we can deliver the really intense, unique type of horror film which I have always made but have fallen any from recently." Raimi began his feature career as the creator of "The Evil Dead" franchise. That pic and the two that followed became cult hits. "The fun for Rob and I when we sit in the audience watching a horror film is that gripping, gut-wrenching feeling of fear," Raimi says. "That's what we want our films to do." Though no budget range or number of pix have yet been specified under the deal, Raimi expects the projects to be "reasonably priced," with "Boogeyman" budgeted in the $18 million-$20 million range. I remember Lucy being interviewed early on that she and Renee > wanted to go out in a blaze of glory OR ride off into the sunset > together. This plot gave us the latter. I've heard this suggestion before, and IMO Fallen just doesn't feel like a season ender. There are a couple of minor reasons - one is that wotsisname still has the chacky, which is surely a no-no for a finale. The other is that Xena keeps feeling 'old', which is no way to end the series IMO. But the other point is that it just isn't spectacular enough for a season or series ender. Sacrifice, The Debts, Sin Trade, Motherhood, Ides - they had the impact to be season enders if necessary. Fallen just felt like a run-of-the-mill middle-season episode to me. > Of course you could make the argument that the director's cut of FIN > gave both.... Here's a novel thought - if XWP came out on DVD then Rob could have made two alternate endings to FIN (and we could fight over which is best :) But on reflection I think that would have been a cop-out. > Either way, I think Fallen could have made a powerful episode given the > chance to fine tune the details. Well, yes, with a bit of work. All this of course is just how it strikes me. Your mileage may vary ;) cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. The "Burning Down the House" music from A Good Day 2. The crucifixion music from Destiny (I get chills when it segues into the peaceful mountains-and-icicles theme) 3. The "opium smoking" music from The Debt (when Xena, Borias, and Lao Ma are dining together, as Xena gets higher and angrier and angrier and higher ) 4. Fallen Angel (especially the "stealing the bodies" music) It's kind of ironic that this discussion has popped up right now-- I converted all the XWP soundtracks to mp3's (about 7 1/2 hours of music), and am now trying to shrink the playlist to an hour or so's worth of favorites, to fit on one "Best of Xena" audio CD. After days of agonizing effort, I'm down to about three hours of "favorites"-- which is NOT going to work, but I can't bear to take anything else out! - --Sekhmet ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I was very excited to see Fallen on Subtext seson. I though it was very good. I had some reservations about the machine which was suppose to carve up Xena but as device to pit Xena and Gabrielle against one another, it worked fine. My other big problem was Lila's and Sarah's willingness to betray Xena. Xena and Gabrielle have brought Sarah back from slavery and the first time some stranger shows up and wants Xena dead they go along with the plot. I think I could understand Lila (she was always ambivilant about Xena) but Sarah should have least argued with her mother abot this. Also I they got off the hook a little easily after they were discovered. Xena woul have forgiven them (she always thinks she should be punished and there is always guilt about Gabby losing her soul) but I think Gabby would have been livid. Anyway I do wish it could have been produced. Not as replacement for FIN but as a replacement for Soul Possession. It might have lead nicely into FIN because after Fallen Xena wanting to take off for Egypt, for some R&R, would have made some sense. The "script" had a depth >and quality to it that I felt was so appropriate for XWP in season 6. hmmmm. different strokes. i tried but couldn't get past the first act. it just didn't work for me. i can go back and watch old eps knowing what's coming but i can't, and don't particularly want to, undo the way the show ended. for me there wasn't anything to get caught up in in . not knocking the writers or arguing with other people's take on it. just saying. i still watch the eps on O2 every day if i possibly can--sometimes twice. i get quite irked if i miss an ep. well, most eps anyway and i still see new things all the time. i just don't feel any need to rewrite the ending. indeed, given my response to this "script" i'm wondering how i'd respond to a xena movie. in my mind, they've moved on to "the next evolution" and i'm afraid anything else falls short. odd. also, although i do have a tolerably good imagination, fanfic has just never done it for me. i like to watch the show. reading about it, even w/ the grabs, just ain't the same. got to have the visuals. i'm very glad, though, that it works for so many fans. it's delightful that there are so many different ways for people to continue to enjoy this show. it must be marvelous fun to be involved in putting these things together. i hope too that it's helpful for those who were upset with or by the ending. md ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I've been wondering just where they intended to place the story ... obviously it has to be an amount of time after "Gurkhan". Considering Gabrielle's general feelings about violence and what she's turning into et al., I'm thinking maybe it would have fit well right after "Helicon". I agree that the script needs some work, but it's still fascinating even as a draft. I'm assuming the answer to this is no, but I have to ask just in case: the script for "Many Happy Returns" (the "lost musical") isn't online anywhere, is it? ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ============================================== ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. "Many Happy Returns" aired near the end of season six. Remember? The Gabrielle birthday pranks. The "They're spoken for," Xena breasts. The sizzling romantic Sappho poem. Taking off into the sunset. I gotta go back and watch it now. Hawk ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
