It's on the S4 CD, and I find it very evocative. I thought it was the final shot. And the music swirls away on a high-pitched note reminiscent of a Western - and very effective. Also notable was the scene just before that when the Amazons were finally released on the mountainside in a golden sunset (except that from the direction of the sun it was actually early morning but that's local knowledge :) and there's a few rising notes on a trumpet that accent it perfectly. > > 2. I like both forms as separate entities. Except I thought The Abyss music was a little too stereotypical 'going-to-work' music from any pioneer movie. Hmmm, am I gonna hafta watch 'Faith' again? ;-) Not that I mind, those early S5 eps are some of my favourite Hercs. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I read it. And I have to say that the general opinion on another list where it's been discussed quite a bit is the same as mine, that it's a bit of a disappointment. Apparently it was a first draft and I think that shows. It could certainly use a bit of work. Somebody commented it had a season-1 like infernal device and a season-6-like dysfunctional family. The disclaimer is certainly post-FIN, which raises the question of how complete the script was or whether Missy finished it for the Virtual Season. It would be interesting to know some details as you said. (My disclaimer: I'm not anti-Missy, in fact I've had good exchanges with her on another list.) All just IMO of course. Be interesting to see what anyone else thinks. cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Set piece gags without a > coherent theme running through it - but it works, almost against the odds. That's an interesting take on it. I hadn't occurred to me to look at it that way but I think you're right. Quite a lot of slapstick comedy in it, which is the sort of thing the director would cook up if, as you say, the script was a little deficient. (Kindred Spirits is of course the best-known example of that). The obvious comparison - or rather contrast - (I think) is with The Quill is Mightier, and that seems to me to be much more carefully plotted. (Why do I make that comparison? - because they both feature Aphrodite and her spells). Besides, I'd sooner see three naked Gabby's than a half-naked Joxer - and me not even a Gabfan cr ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. I haven't independently verified this (though I do plan to stop by the two stores that are on my way home this evening :), but I thought I'd pass it along. The "script" had a depth and quality to it that I felt was so appropriate for XWP in season 6. As I read the story and got emotionally wrapped up in the overwhelming desperation communicated by X & G, I couldn't help but squirm in my chair as one had to make the final play prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice. Unlike FIN, the reasons were clear and the outcome much happier. Actually I had wondered if this had not been the first try as a series ender. I remember Lucy being interviewed early on that she and Renee wanted to go out in a blaze of glory OR ride off into the sunset together. This plot gave us the latter. Of course you could make the argument that the director's cut of FIN gave both.... Xena out in blazing glory and the duo riding off into the sunset (on the ship) in the final scene.....but that's a whole other discussion. Either way, I think Fallen could have made a powerful episode given the chance to fine tune the details.
