Young" Subject: [chakram-refugees] KSmith Tribute CD My friend Katsu in Japan (who's also on this list) just sent me a CD copy of the hour-long tribute to KSmith and his music that was on WFMU in NJ in Apr. Katsu went through quite a bit of trouble to separate the tracks by converting the files to MP3s, so the job is a *pro* one. ;) There's even the patter of the DJ. I'll probably be auctioning off this CD at our Xenafest in June, but before it slips out of my *grubby little hands* ;) , I thought I'd ask if anyone here would like a copy. If so, please e-mail me privately. Like Meredith said, the music is *grundge* music, and the station seems to be as AOR (Album-Oriented Rock) as you can get ;) , so if you haven't yet heard this music, please take that into consideration. ;P It's not my cup of tea, but it may be yours. ;) Just FYI, ;) - --Jackie ****************************************************** * Proud to have the same birthday as Lucy Lawless! * * * * "I think New Zealand geographically comes from * * ... If so, please e-mail me privately. Um, before you go auctioning off for money a CD of copyrighted material that's not yours and was downloaded off the Internet, I would take a look at the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act). And then if I were still determined to go forward with the auction, I would email the DJ who presented the special, John Allen (hungrychuck@wfmu.org) and ask his permission first. (If the auction is for a charity, that might help your case a little bit.) WFMU is generous enough to provide archives of their shows for people to download and listen to (and even trade, if they're so inclined), but *not* for people to make money off of. >Like Meredith said, the music is *grundge* music, and the station seems to >be as AOR (Album-Oriented Rock) as you can get ;) , WFMU isn't AOR, they are 100% free-form. AOR is a format, which they don't have. (Sorry to split hairs, but free-form community radio stations are an extremely endangered species in this country, and they should be known as what they are.) ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ============================================== ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Cowie and Tom Johnson (McFarland, 2002), has a long entry on the Hercules episode Mummy Dearest. In addition to synopsizing the episode, the authors say-- This delightful series from New Zealand has classicists tearing their hair out and everyone else roaring with approval. The gods are spoiled brats. Hercules has constant trouble with his jealous stepmother, Hera the Queen of the Gods, fights injustice like Superman with almost equal powers, avoids pneumatic ladies with a deft touch, and apart from being a touch ingenuous at times, is an altogether great role model. The "hip" dialogue and rampantly anachronistic machinery, together with the many visual jokes, make it a fun experience to watch. In this episode, the mummy was superbly created by the makeup, wardrobe and effects team. As Kevin Sorbo recalls, "I still think that this was one of the best jobs the boys from WETA, that's the special effects company down in Wellington, did with the mummy. I mean, it looked great on TV, but in person I think it scared the hell out of me! ... this thing was spooky- looking ... The episode was just perfect for Halloween." (Wiesbrot, 1988) The quote is from Wiesbrot's Hercules book. Another new McFarland film reference book, The Devil on Screen (2002) by Charles P. Mitchell, does not have anything on the two Xena episodes featuring Satan and Lucifer. Mitchell takes a jab at Xena in his annotation of Jesus, a 2000 TV miniseries. "In essence, the picture infuses the Bible with the atmosphere of Xena the Warrior Princess."
