It's immensely entertaining -- despite some script issues, it manages to be a really good adaptation of the comics, and there are some definite Sam Raimi touches throughout. Plus, you can play the "Spot the X:WP alumni game"! Here are some hints so you're prepared (read no further if you don't want to be spoiled): - -- Bruce Campbell appears first, as the wrestling announcer. He's impossible to miss, and a hoot to see. - -- LL has the shortest cameo, it's literally a don't-blink-or-you'll-miss-it thing (my roommate blinked and he did miss her, so I know this to be true :). When the montage starts of New Yorkers talking about Spider-Man, pay attention. She's one of the last people "interviewed" (and her line is pretty funny). - -- Ted Raimi's cameo is the biggest of the three: he actually appears in two scenes. He plays Jonah Jamieson's assistant, a very Joxer-like character. Also pretty funny. Another notable cameo is by the man Stan Lee himself. Look carefully: when all hell breaks loose at World Unity Day, you'll see a shot of him running away from the carnage, then it cuts away to something else, then cuts back to a little girl standing just staring at something falling towards her. Stan Lee runs back into the frame, picks up the little girl, and hi-tails it out of there. So he finally gets to be a hero himself. :) Pretty cool. ============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ============================================== Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html =======Next Up: Jessica Weiser 5/12/02======== ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. (Deianera (sp?) on Herc) having drug/divorce problems (oh, how far they have fallen ;( ). On Tues. 5/7, they had the *briefest* mention of LL's new baby boy, Judah Miro Tapert, born 5/7/2002, 8 lbs., 8 oz. (but only gave his first name, I hadda go on their site to get the full info ;( ). Then on Weds. 5/8, they had a fuller story of LL's baby birth, saying because she was 1 month overdue, she told Julius his brother was making a "truck" inside her for him, and that she suffered minor "road rage" because of being overdue and that everyone should "get out of her way". ;) *hehe!* Anyway, better/more info available on their Web site . Help! What is this place!* Ok, calm down and take deep breaths. Better? Good. Now, this place you're at is the Website for the Doctor Who Crossover Adventures. *Which is what?* Don't you know what the Crossover Adventures are? Ok, the Doctor Who Crossover Adventures are a series of audio plays that a couple of fans decided to produce and join the multitude of other fan audio Doctor Who productions that's available. *Crossovers? Is that what I think it is?* Probably. Crossovers mean stories that cross-over into other worlds. Umm, the best example is stories such as Doctor Who meets Xena: Warrior Princess or Doctor Who meets Star Trek. You know, familiar characters from one TV series that meet characters from another. *Oh? I can see how that would work in a written story, but how could you do it in audio? Do you get actors to imitate the other characters, like Xena and Captain Kirk?* Well, that's the trick. What we do is use the original sounds. *What? As in you actually hire Lucy Lawless and William Shatner to record the sounds?* Are you kidding? That is way beyond our budgets for this sort of thing (and most of them are in different countries to us anyway). Nah, we use the original sounds from their respective TV series or movies. *Huh? I don't understand* Well. Let's see if we can explain it. Think of a scene with, say, Xena and Gabrielle. They're chatting and Xena says something like "Gabrielle! I've found out that Ares is taking Callisto and her army to Thebes! We have to stop them!" to which Gabrielle replies "Just a moment! I'm writing one of my stories. You'll have to wait!" *Oh, I saw that episode!* Oh dear, we hope not - we made it up. Anyway, if it were real, I'd get that recorded onto the computer and then cut and paste the sound. Then add my own. For example, I'd record the Doctor saying "Xena! There you are, I've been looking everywhere for you. Have you got any news?" then I'd add in Xena's line "I've found out that Ares is taking Callisto and her army to Thebes! We have to stop them!" To which the Doctor could reply "Yes, quite". And this would go on for an entire episode. We mix sounds and things together to make a story and then upload it. http://tymelord.mine.nu/FAQ.htm md ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. As promised I have some information about the extension for Xena Live! We ARE extending through June 2. And taking the place of Scott Duff as Androgeny as of May 18th will be none other than Episode One's Alexandra Billings! Scott's last show is Friday the 17th. Alex will do the rest of the run thru June 2. There will be no extension past June 2. The About Face Youth program begins right after Xena so this is the definite close date. GET YOUR TICKETS NOW!!! http://www.xenalive.com Take care, Di **************************************************************************** ************ I had some advance notice regarding Alexandra Billings' casting. When we arrived last Saturday night for the late performance the friend I was with graciously allowed me to sit center stage. We were looking at the program inserts, one of which had Alexandra's picture on it and it stated she would be doing '1776' in an all-female cast. Suddenly the person sitting on my right said, "That's me." That's when I learned I was sitting next to Alex Billings! She was sitting in the audience, preparing for taking over the role. I had an opportunity to chat a bit with her during the show, too. I'm planning on going again a couple of times before the show closes and I'm looking forward to Alex's performance. bd ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
