The official reason, as told to Herc by Petracus, is to get him out of her way. She sees him as an obstacle. > Of course the problem now with Warrior Princess is that after seeing evil > Xena in so many episodes it seems odd that she would need to seduce anyone > to do her dirty work. She would just go off and kill him herself. Well, yes, _but_ it's the first Xena ep ever.... her evil past got eviller in retrospect as time went by. ;) > The Gauntlet is the best of the episodes. By the way, did you notice that the shepherdess (?) in the cave, who looked after the baby for Xena, was Queen Marga in Season 6? > The Unchained Heart is OK. Basically it's a monster episode. And I liked her idea of 'scouting' - she comes upon five of the enemy, blitzes four of them and yells after the fifth "Tell Darphus I'm coming for him" - this is not what I usually understand by the term 'scouting'. :) And there was a lovely scene near the start where Herc is trying to figure how to tell Iolaus he's hooked up with Xena and Salmoneus keeps nearly giving the game away. I thought it was just a good fun ep. Thelonius ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. The 'criminals guarding criminals' scene > cracked me up!! Yeah, loved that scene. Not 'Laferia', Glaphyra. Played by Katrina Hobbs. Yes, she was in other eps... but of early Hercules, not Xena. She was Marysa in Festival of Dionysus and 'Lover Girl' in Hercules in the Maze of the Minotaur. I seem to suffer from the same insensitivities as Xena, so thanks > for the heads-up. > > -- Ife Well, *I* don't get it. ;) Or rather, I understand the argument but I think it's bogus. Gabby chose to tag along after Xena (and proved impossible to shake off, even though Xena tried several times IIRC). That was Gabs' decision, not Xena's, and therefore IMO Gabs is responsible for the consequences, not Xena. Because Gabs chose to let her world revolve around Xena (like an obsessive fan? ;) does NOT in any way mean that Xena is required to make her world revolve around Gabs. That's the general situation IMO. Specifically, in The Deliverer, Xena had every reason to believe that Gabs was safely out of the way with Khrafstar's flower children, which should have been much safer than being around Xena and Boadicea who were about to fight a battle for their lives with Caesar. Xena had no way of knowing what K's bunch were really like. Further, it was _Gabs_ who chose to hang out with Khrafstar & co, Xena didn't tell her to. And Xena had far more pressing things on her mind - like that same impending battle with Caesar - than whether she was spending enough quality time with Gabs. As a Warrior Princess she absolutely should _not_ have allowed herself to be distracted by personal considerations at a time like that. (And she most certainly shouldn't have rushed off on the eve of battle to see what was up with Gabby - - that's the only really blameworthy thing she does in the ep.). All IMO, of course ;) Thelonius ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. The May/June 2002 issue, p. 44, has this review-- Xena: Warrior Princess, series finale (director's cut) Long live berserker babes in leather bustiers! Fantasy buffs can't get enough of them, but perhaps the average American viewer can, as evidenced by this long-running TV favorite's inevitable demise. Still, modern folkore holds that if you've got to go out, do so with a bang, and Xena upholds this maxim marvelously, providing an action-packed finale that easily secures a position as the coup de grace for the series. When Yodoshi, demonic Lord of the Dark Land, threatens to raze the land, Xena and her little sidekick Gabrielle arrive to set things straight, promptly treating audiences to Crouching Tiger-esque scenes of superhuman acrobatics. Good luck finding a made-for-TV special with more ludicrous battle sequences--from dancing between arrows to one-against-20 melees. But despite the somewhat obvious climax, it's all in good fun--a fact stressed by colorful audio commentary from stars Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor and producer/director Robert Tapert. With a wealth of juicy behind-the-scenes footage, any superfan would be remiss to overlook this package. 79 - --Scott Steinberg The "79" is the rating, By comparison, they rate Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season One at 70 and Oz, The Complete First Season at 84.
