I liked Charles Masuer as Darnel and the actress who played Laferia have a nice light-hearted attraction played with a nice toghness. I had not realized how many characters Charles Masuer had played until someone listed them quite a while back. I really enjoy his portrayal of the characters. Has the actress who played Laferia been in other eps? I enjoyed her portrayal as well. The 'criminals guarding criminals' scene cracked me up!! > I didn't find Agremon to be a very convincing villian and a I never believed for a minute that Ares would chose him to be his chosen. Agremon was [for me] the biggest turn off of the ep. > I liked the showdown in the forge but I was a little confused about one piece of dialog - Xena tells Gabrielle abd Laferia to leave but Gabrielle, of course, won't go and Laferia says :They won't leave their men behind. I assume she meant Darnel but was she referring to Xena as Gabrielle's man. Great music _ I loved the "Magnificent Seven" music as Xena climbs the fortress's wall. So *that's* the music!! All I could think of was 'a western'. > Now for my one pet peeve. Once again we have Xena saying she made the 4 convicts. That her influence turned them to a life a crime. I never accepted Xena's logic here and I always thought Gabrielle could have made a better argument. It is apparent that the four convicts turned to a life of crime with great enthusiasm and in all probability sought Xena out. Yes she trained them but I suspect they were more than willing to be trained by her. When Gabrielle askes Xena if she made her, Xena eventually says that Gabrielle is her own person. It's too bad that Gabrielle could not have at least said something to the effect that the 4 convicts also were responsible for their lives. > I haven't seen the ep in a while, but seem to recall that Darnel was a farmer. Didn't Xena describe most of them as 'villagers' who she turned to crime. I could see the 'Warlord' Xena doing that. I especially liked Xena's words at the end to the effect that Gabrielle had made her. > > Next week The Deliverer and Gabrielle's Hope, hopefully. > > CherylA > ========================================================= > This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. > To unsubscribe, send a message to majordomo@smoe.org with > "unsubscribe chakram-refugees" in the message body. > Contact meth@smoe.org with any questions or problems. > ========================================================= ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. However, this ep was important to me because it foreshadowed a lot of the questions that Gabrielle began raising, leading up to "the rift." " Yes I agree in fact I was going to mention that very fact but I just couldn't put my finger on what eactly I wanted to say. You however have made the points very well "I don't believe she'd (sic Gabrielle )ever considered that Xena conscripted ordinary folks who might have gone on scraping away at whatever they were doing, until Xena tempted them with a different route. True, they chose to follow her, even if that choice may have been forced on them. " Yes I believe Xena may have indeed tempted them but they appeared to have been very open to temptation and certainly seemed not too unhappy with their choices. However it could be said that Xena perhaps had a knack at centering in on people who were vulnerable to her influence. Perhaps tha's why she chose these 4 for this mission - she believed she could change them again this time for good "I think the main point was the shift in Gabrielle's view of Xena, in that she was finally beginning to acknowledge Xena's clay feet. If she'd continued making excuses for Xena's impact on others' lives, she might never have understood Xena's own unwavering acceptance of her responsibility for those lives. And while Xena feared the day Gabrielle would understand that, she also feared that Gabrielle would not otherwise be able to love the "real" person, rather than an idealized version." Yes I think Gabrielle is beginning to see Xena as a more fallible individual. Certainly Gabrielle has more doubts about Xena's choices - this leads her to Kraftstar and certainly to her betrayal in Chin. Xena indeed fears that Gabrielle can't love the "real" Xena and that leads her to two diasterous decisions - her emotional withdrawal in Britania and leaving Gabrielle behind when she goes to Chin, CherylA ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. (Indeed, I had to read your comment a few times before my initial frown went away.) I'd focused more on Xena's singlemindedness on her missions, underestimating the vacuum that left in terms of Gabrielle's feelings or understanding. I used to think some folks were being a little too hard on Xena, in terms of blaming her for what happened with Gabrielle in Britania and Chin. I finally "get" it now. I seem to suffer from the same insensitivities as Xena, so thanks for the heads-up. - -- Ife ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
