The last VCR I bought, it p****ed me off so much, I took it back to the shop the next day and swapped it for another make. No kidding. Thanks for the review, though, it makes fascinating reading. You certainly have a talent for description. Thelonius ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Wouldn't it be just like Aprhodite to throw a spanner in the works? I can just see her casually zapping the workers with that twinkly stuff she sprinkles around... If anybody can say for sure if this is the same documentary, I'd really appreciate it. I know quite a few people who have been putting off buying kit 5 thinking this might end up being the case, and No way wanting to give cremation the extra money for the gold version for a repeat of what might end up on the DVD. Xena Lives - The Musical. For anyone who might be hesitating about going, I really encourage you to give it a try. I don't think you will be disappointed. I won't try to report very much on it, since preview shows are all about finding what works and what doesn't, smoothing out the rough edges and acting as dress rehearsals for the opening. I will say that everyone sings very well, with Amy Matheny probably having the most experience. Elizabeth Laidlaw seemed a bit tentative to me when I saw the show Friday night, but by Saturday she was much more confident. Everyone else simple belted out their song(s) with great enthusiasm. The show seems to have captured the grand melodrama and wacky zaniness of the television show and seemed most reminiscent of season one or two. The action of this episode doesn't take off from their episode one, but I won't say anymore than that. I'm choosing to wait until I do my report sometime after the Chicago Bardcon, since that is when I'll be seeing it next. Elizabeth Laidlaw said they probably were going to leave the show the way it was when we saw it Saturday night, but she added that it could still change. We've often talked about the chemistry between Lucy and Renee; I think there is just as much chemistry between Elizabeth Laidlaw and Amy Matheny. That kind of chemistry is based on mutual affection, respect and admiration. In both cases, the chemistry seems almost to be a tangible thing. It was hard for me to determine how the actors were taking the audience's reaction to the show until Elizabeth, with Amy, stepped out on stage after the show was over and said that preview was the wildest one she had ever been at. I think she meant the audience was very responsive, and we were. There is one spot in the show where one actor tries to get one section of the audience to respond and Friday night's crowd sat on their hands. The next night the same section applauded like mad. So I guess she was right about us. At any rate, I am eagerly looking forward to the next performance I get to go to. I will make one proviso, that if you are not big on subtext, of whatever variety, this show may not be for you. Nevertheless, I do hope fans do go if at all possible. Like their TV counterparts, these guys are putting their hearts into the production. Oh, that's so typical Aphrodite. As Thelonius said, anxious for all the recognition she can get, poking her nose into matters where she feels there's not enough Aphrodite already... and yes, I can see her wrinkling up her nose with giggles as she walks amongst the workers blowing kisses and love dust at 'em. ;) > Archaeologists say they've started nearly 20 separate digs on the site, > about 15 kilometres southeast of central Athens. Y'know... it would be an interesting thing to relocate the venues in order to incorporate the digs into some kind of Olympian tour-thingy. That way they wouldn't have to call it a loss. That's probably what most think about when they think of Greece/Athens, anyway, all those beautiful ruins and history. And I don't think many tourists that plan on going to the 2004 Olympics plan on nixing any side-adventures. Eh, just a thought. > Architects, meanwhile, are being forced to continually redesign the venue > since the widespread excavations began in January. "Hi, I'm Antoninus, and I'd like one hot bath, one hot oil massage, and a regular love. No, make that super sized extra love. I'm feeling peckish today." Oh, that 'Dite.
