The > actress who played the Priestess of Mnemosyne was a little stiff and weak but > Renee's performance more than made up for it. I too liked the ep quite a bit, but and some different thoughts on it. OK... I'll admit it... I *like* Joxer! Although he is a bumbling wanna be most of the time, he does come through in the end. I think he showed true concern as a friend when he first came across Gabrielle in the woods and tried to offer his help to her when he saw how upset she was. He is also concerned enough to not only stay around the temple in case she needs something, but he goes in to get her out when he thinks she is in trouble. While he was twisting her stories around quite a bit, I think it was almost as much for his ego as to try and swing her around. When he realized what he was doing to or for Gabshell [hey, I really like that one!] was wrong, he did try to straighten things out. ... back to lurk mode.... With the implied question of, will she make it? I think she'll make it. She strikes me as the kind of woman who's very centered personally and professionally. What kind of "make it", though, is left to be seen... has she already made it, or will she make it in 10 years after she's been around long enough to be a staying name in Hollywood? There are alot of people in the entertainment profession who've made it, but aren't household names. Lucy, though, is a big household name, along with a well-known image - so I think professionally it's good turn to cut her hair, go back to her natural color, and choose to do theater, or show up at mega blockbuster movie premieres, or even drive down to the local hospital to appear in a charity event, now that XWP is done. Getting stuck as "Xena" wouldn't do, when you've got good talent like she does, beyond "cult tv." :) I think she roared onto the scene with such a feverish pace with XWP that anything she'd do now that didn't come with the kind of hype that XWP came with might be easily overlooked by the press that once was on a feeding frenzy around her. So the stints in theater kind of give her the opportunity to hit a cruising speed, show some metal, do what she wants to do, and get noticed for some versatility now. I think the opportunity is probably there for her to jump right into a big film project (with all of the producers, writers and directors in Hollywood, I just can't imagine that nobody would want to grab onto her name and ride it into the box office) but I get the feeling right now that she's got a plan and she's sticking to it. ;) Even if she slows down a little to have more kids, or do more travelling, or just sit at home in her jammies and throw bon bons at the tv, I don't think for one second that she'll exit this ride for a long time to come. This is of course because of the KISS and subtext comes out the closet - so to speak. I can very well remember being very surprised at that moment and I also remember watching my Dad's reaction (he just smiled and chuckled). Beside the kiss we got really good performances by ROC, Danielle Cormack, Melinda Clark and Bruce Campbell, who was at his most charming ( I loved his line to Xena "Hey, there is just barely room in head for my own paranoia). I really like this episode but........ Having said all this has anyone else noticed this episode makes no sense at all. First Valesca challenged Melosa for the crown and wins. But she doesn't really win because Gabrielle is floating around as a Princess so when she comes back to Amazonia she gets the crown and Valesca for some reason can't challenge her she just has to ask nicely for the crown she just killed for. Second when Auto-Xena makes off with Xena's coffin with Gabby riding it like sled why is Valesca screaming that Gabby betrayed the Amazons? How did Gabrielle betray the nation? Xena wasn't an Amazon. I could see Valesca saying Gabrielle wasn't acting very queenly and maybe she isn't going to make a very good queen but sending out search parties to kill her over a breach in funeral etiquette seems just a tad excessive. And while we at it home come Iolaus doesn't know Xena is dead but Autolycus does and so do apparently every thug in Greece? A Necessary Evil is a really good chase film. Melinda Clark has a great speech at Artimis's temple as she berates the goddess for abandoning the Amazons. Callisto is at her best - nasty, sarcastic, cruel, and oddly touching. Her reaction at Xena's confession in the town square is moving you see Callisto's pain and sorrow but in the next scene we see the cruel Callisto as she taunts Gabrielle over Perdy's death. Xena is at her most stoic and ruthless best. I loved the scene where she fixes her dislocated shoulder by slamming into the cave wall. Also it is interesting watching Xena use any means available to save Gabrielle even using her worst enemy and making her god in order to accomplish her goals. Gabrielle is suitable perturbed at the thought that she know has own enemy - Valasca doesn't care a wit about Xena it's Gabrielle she wants dead and Gabrielle is really shaken by this turn of events. I wish we could have Valesca back - not only because Clark was very good - it would have been interesting to watch Gabrielle cope with being the object of someone's obsessive hatred. There are however a couple of questions that do pop up in this episode. Why doe Callisto and Valesca have blue eyes when they are a god? Why didn't Callisto Still have blue eyes when she gets out the lava? (We can couple this question with one from Destiny - why does young Callisto always have blue eyes? Did they turn brown from grief?) And finally how does Xena know Callisto was imprisoned by Hercules - do Xena and Herc write one another? Anyway that's it for this week. I'm off to Pasadena Wednesday - still no tickets from Creations. I called them today. I'm on the list but I am apparently in the wrong section - the lady said we would straighten out the seating in Pasadena. I say FAT CHANCE _ I think my aggravation meter is going to go through the roof come Friday.
