Miss Artiphys had the best - and campiest - lines in the ep. X: I want some straight answers. Miis A: Have _you_ got the wrong girl! I liked the way that Xena insisted Miss Artiphys stay in the competition, and Miss A repaid the favour by turning up in Xena's armour just as one of the warlords had accused 'Miss Amphipolis' of being Xena the Warrior Princess - and what a walk-on line, "Honey, I'm no princess, I'm a Queen". :) > Destiny is of course a turning point in the show Xena. And for someone who didn't have one line of English, she expressed herself remarkably well. I particularly liked her playing of the moment when (at Xena's demand) she puts 'the pinch' on Xena, and then when Xena says 'now take it off' she feigns unconcern as if she's deciding whether it's worth her while to bother or not. Of course Xena got her back the same way a few minutes later. I felt that they had a grudging respect for each other, but neither was going to admit it or let the other one 'win' the exchange. I was devastated when M'Lila got killed. I really wanted to see more of this delightful and fascinating character. There was one anomaly in regard to M'Lila's language - howcome Xena and M'Lila didn't learn some of each other's language in the time they spent on the ship? We know Xena's a fast learner of languages from other eps. As someone pointed out to me, we know Xena didn't learn M'Lila's language because Nicklio had to translate for her in the hut. Apparently there was thought at one time of making Destiny a double ep, I wish they had done. I was actually quite disconcerted when I first saw The Quest, that the tone of the episode was so different - I was really wanting to see more of Caesar, Nicklio and M'Lila. The Quest is still a good ep - Bruce Campbell's great in it - but IMO not in the same class as Destiny. Destiny was also, I think, a much more epic, weightier and 'darker' ep than any that had preceded it.... The Greater Good was maybe the only preceding one that approached it, but Xena revived by the end of that; in Destiny she was betrayed, crucified, had her legs broken and (in a separate timeline) died..... I rather think the final 'cross' scene with Xena suspended above a burning landscape was the most visually striking scene in the series up to that point. It sticks in my memory. > As Gabrielle is dragging Xena up the mountain, Xena relives all this. She > is once again so overcome by feelings of guilt that she gives up. I had the same reaction - why spoil it with historical figures - but I soon changed my mind and I thought the way they worked C,JC's career into the story was very skilful. He snapped a few quick digital camera shots of the cover plus three full page pics of lucy. I've uploaded them here for you to get a look at. I saw, accidently tonight, Shiri Appleby, who played Tara in two episodes, Seasons 3 and 4. She was playing a woman named Liz in the UPN program, Roswell, about extraterrestials. The lovely thing is that I didn't "see" her first, I "heard" her. This lovely accent that distinguishes her from others. I saw her, turned away, heard her voice, and turned back and said, "Tara, it's you," but in much longer straight dark brown hair which is the style many shows are giving to lots of young women actresses today. Hardly recognized her. Makes them look the same, but thank the God/desses they don't all talk the same ! Seems like she has a regular role on the program. : ) It's also the same way I "spotted" Timothy Omundson a year or two ago (he played Eli, the prophet and avatar on Xena). I was doing work on the computer, back to the TV, with Judge Amy on, and heard this very recognizable voice behind me. Lovely, again, just recognizing the voices. Done.
