No, 'nitwit' is not a word much used by Kiwis. 'Idiot', 'moron', 'f***wit' or 'wanker' are more common, according to the context. But I think in this case, probably 'wally' is appropriate. Of course, you failed to take account of the fact that I was being just a teensy bit facetious in my post.... ;-) > and may i say that, while i would love to see her perform myself, i don't > really feel envy but rather great good fortune as i shouldn't be able to > attend whether you went or not and now you'll be going and, chattybritches > extraordinaire that you are, you can tell us *all* about it. and > don't leave out danielle, either, mate. so i'm just flat delighted. and not > at all surprised that danielle is involved. Oh dear. Now I shall have to give my full attention to memorising what went on instead of just enjoying myself. :( And yes, I'm expecting Danielle to be as good as Lucy. As for Madeleine Sami, I'm sure (since Sojourner corrected my abysmal ignorance of who she is) that she'll be very good too. > perhaps my one surprise is that MH hasn't convinced them to let him do one > of the monologues. i feel sure he'd be superb and quite genuine and very, > very good. i'm sure that's a terribly politically incorrect thing to say > but i don't care. Michael Hurst? It would be - unusual, but I guess he'd be original and most interesting. I admire your bravery in admitting that on this list, anyway ;-) I have visions of walking in (on a hot evening) wearing a jacket with an obtrusively large lapel button, getting suspicious looks from all around, and ending up with a tape of the sound of me breathing and people rustling their programs... well, I don't suppose there will be any official recording of the show, but I'll talk with my technical consultant (OK OK, the other fan who's going to it :) Maybe we should just plant a bug..... I have a tin ear and now I can't remember the music from the film, but it is fitting that the film used Xena's composer. Like XWP it is an audacious reinvention of history in the service of pop entertainment. Set in 18th century France, it combines the spirit of Hammer horror, Italian Westerns and kungfu films. I think that in order to change history for entertainment purposes, you have to know the real history. XWP And Brotherhood of the Wolf are pretty successful because their makers know the real history and can play with it. In contrast, the TV series Sinbad failed becuase its makers clearly knew nothing but the most common stereotypes of the Arabian Nights. Hah! They only way they'd let Michael Hurst do the play would be if he did it as the Widow Twanky. Now *that*, I'd pay money to see. ;> Thelonius added: >I have visions of walking in (on a hot evening) wearing a jacket with an >obtrusively large lapel button, getting suspicious looks from all around, and >ending up with a tape of the sound of me breathing and people rustling their >programs... Heh. Making stealth audio recordings is actually quite easy, and with the right microphone they come out very well. My roommate records almost all of the concerts we go to (an average of 2-3 a week), with a Sony portable minidisc recorder that easily fits in a pocket. He's got a pair of tiny stereo microphones that he clips unobtrusively to the lapels of whichever dark-colored shirt he's wearing at the time. Usually we've got the permission of the artist to record, but in those cases where we don't, it's very easy to set up and nobody's the wiser. We've been told by many people that his recordings sound as good as, or even better than official live releases. With a small setup like that, you could make a very good recording of the audio of the play. Not that I'm pushing, or anything. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Actually, he's so good he could do it as himself. I'll shut up now.
