But Michael Hurst is good too.< Ahhh.....I was hoping it would be Jay - can't spell his last name, let alone say it - "Draco" that would be her leading man. I always thought they had good chemistry, especially in "A Comedy Of Eros" and "Lyre, Lyre". Just my thoughts.... ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. However after watching it again this weekend I have to say this episode really belongs to LL and Xena. Xena begins this episode as a supremely confident person. When Perdicus first asks Gabrielle to marry him we see a Xena who very confident. She knows Gabrielle will never leave her and she even gives Gabrielle the little "whatever you want to do is alright with me" speech but you can see in her eyes that she knows Gabrielle with stay with her. Then when Gabrielle accepts Perdicus you see the absolute shock in Xena's eyes. At the wedding while Gabrielle and Perdicus exchange vows Xena looks almost physically ill and when she hugs Gabrielle good-by you see the hint of panic in her eyes as she realizes she has lost Gabrielle. Then things really go wrong. Xena discovers that Callisto is out to kill Gabrielle, Xena rescues Gabrielle but Callisto instead kills Perdicus. Xena has failed Gabrielle and things just get worse. Gabrielle now is consumed by hate she goads Xena into teaching her to fight. In the scene at the tree you see Xena's mounting frustration with the situation - she can't control what is happening to her friend. She comes to realize there is something worse than losing Gabrielle to Perdicus, it is losing her friend to hatred. In desperation she finally prays to an indifferent god to save her friend. It is beautiful scene and Lucy is great - she brings to that scene a real sense of desperation and how truly frightened Xena is to shallow her pride and ask the god's help. Finally we have the confrontation with Callisto in the quicksand pit as Xena lets Callisto drown. As you watch LL you really can see that Xena is deciding what to do about Callisto - she really doesn't decide to get up and walk away - no she watches as Callisto sinks probably even she doesn't know until it's over if she will act to save her enemy. In the end she betrays everything she has tried to be - the hero has become the murder once again. She goes away with her faith in herself shaken to its very foundation. This will have dire consequences in Intimate Strangers. There are a few side notes to this episode. There has always been the question of why Xena didn't save Perdy. After seeing the episode again I think I may have the answer. When Xena arrives Perdicus has been wounded and is lying at the side of the road and Callisto is about to stab Gabrielle. Xena doesn't see Perdicus and is concentrating on Gabrielle - I think she simply forgot about him. Xena certainly looks surprised when he stands up and is skewed by Callisto. So I believe Xena was simply caught off guard. Second in this episode Callisto attempts to kill a small dark haired girl in the village she is attacking. Xena saves her of course. The girl however looked like the girl from Little Problems and I was if anyone knows if it was the same actress. Warrior...Priestess...Tramp introduces Xena's third look alike Meg future wife of Joxer and mother of Virgil but who right now is a prostitute. This is a fun episode a bit jarring to be seen right after TROC (I assume it should have aired before TROC but perhaps Lucy's accident caused Intimate Stranger to be behind in production). Anyway ROC is very funny as a very angry Gabrielle who keeps being thrown in a dungeon by her friend Xena (actually Meg in disguise). It is also unintentionally funny to hear Gabrielle referred to as that irritating blond when she is now actually a redhead (I don't think it's ever been explained why Gabrielle turned into a redhead during the second season - perhaps Gabrielle got a good deal on henna). I loved the scene in Diana's bedroom when Joxer, who has been having a torrid affair with Meg as Xena, gooses the real Xena and gets tossed across the room by the astonished Xena. Anyway very funny episode - Lucy does a nice job but she doesn't stay in her many characters as well as did in Warrior... Priestess... Tramp . Golden Globes Hi, Boeotian reported: >After six years of ignoring Lawless and O'Connor the Golden Globes gave their >best actress in a drama series to an actress in a new action series, Jennifer >Garner of Alias. ... thus continuing their fine tradition of giving their Best Acress award to the new babe of the current season. (Jessica Alba last year, Keri Russell the year before that ...) Though I have to say, out of the babes-of-the-year listed above, Garner is the most deserving of the three. She is doing a very good job portraying the nuances of Sidney Bristow's character (and she kicks major ass while she's doing it, too :). (For the record: _Felicity_ has long been a guilty pleasure and I lovelovelove _Dark Angel_ ... but I'm trying to keep some perspective here. :) ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list.
