May I comment? I did like the twist on Goliath not being all bad, but that was about the only thing I liked about it. > Now for the strange stuff. Using real Biblical figures is chancy at best. I didn't like it. At that stage they hadn't done all the pseudo-Biblical stuff of Season 5 and 6, and I really really didn't like to see them straying into the Bible stories. Everybody's done 'em. And the other thing I really didn't like was seeing Xena set up an old friend so someone else's folk hero could kill him. She didn't even get to do it herself. Though I really was expecting them to play the Cyndi Lauper (? I think it was?) song over the end credits, I was quite disappointed when it didn't come up. Director T.J. Scott - best known for Sin Trade - his style certainly shows. And the style was absolutely deliberate and I think an integral part of the ep. > Also first time ROC gets to play a demon - she showed promise and > went to play very good little evil demons the following seasons. There was a really neat shot in the cave where Joxer (I think) walks through a doorway and Gabby scuttles backwards out of shot up the cave wall behind him. Blink and you missed it. > Also our > girls encounter with Bacchus has lead to numerous very good fan fiction > stories with our girls as various types of vampiri from uber to classic > X&G. Unlike Callisto though, Bacchus never did come back. Not really much loss IMO, he didn't have the charisma of Callisto. Or the looks ;) Thanks for giving us something to think about, Cheryl. More than four years after directing the biggest hit in movie history, Cameron has yet to lock in a directorial follow-up to ``Titanic.'' But ``Amazons'' shares the female empowerment themes prevalent in his films, including ``Terminator 2,'' ``True Lies'' and ``The Abyss.'' All were subtle compared with the Amazons, a clan of fierce female hunters who only seek out the company of males when they need to repopulate. Steven Pressfield's novel will be published by Doubleday in June and is the first deal made by Hotchkiss and Associates, which represents Pressfield, who might write the script. Pressfield wrote the first draft adaptation of his novel ``The Legend of Bagger Vance,'' and he is also the author of ``Gates of Fire,'' the epic Spartan battle of Thermopylae in 480 B.C., which will be directed by Michael Mann at Universal, with script by David Self (``13 Days''). I think this episode is often brought up as one the least favorite ones. I remeber not being too thrilled with it when I first saw it. Perhaps time and distance makes it seem more enjoyable. > > Orpheus's head was very entertaining - the guy was permanently p***ed off (as > I guess he had a certain right to be). Giving everyone a baleful glare. At one point Orpheus is sitting on Joxer's lap and I keep thinking about the poor actor having to stick his head between Joxer's legs. Perhaps that lead to his surly disposition. > Unlike Callisto though, Bacchus never did come back. Not really much loss > IMO, he didn't have the charisma of Callisto. Thanks! I gotta hand it to Xenites who spot and recognize all the stuff that seems to always slip by me.... I'm always looking for a good excuse to rewatch an ep!! A couple of posts ago a lot of comments were made about Giant Killer. One thing that always struck me was Gabrielle and David are talking and his fiancee comes up. Her 'stupid, stupid, stupid' to her self as she walks away for some reason struck a chord. In this part of the series she seemed to be falling for any boy that she ran into. I guess David would not qualify as a red shirt since she was falling for him and it was not reciprocal. I also liked her 'Stories tell us who we are...' line to David as well in that scene. .
