She's probably better known as the WWF's Chyna, though she's trying to get together an acting career under her own name (she was in the premiere episode of _Tracker_, which I turned off after the first fifteen minutes - yecch). >I wasn't interested enough to leaf through to check. >The cover photo is a woman with long dark hair and leathers. > >(The show ran 6 years and that's the only thing Playboy got out of it. >"Long dark hair, leathers--We'll tag her warrior princess.) Well, at the risk of getting slapped I'll confess that Chyna always struck me as looking more like the "real Xena" than LL. She's got the muscle mass I'd expect a sword-wielding career warrior to have (and require). >The lovely Vicky Pratt has a photo spread in this month's Muscle and >Fitness. >That one I did glance though quickly. Didn't recall any mention of X:WP. >But her pictures might have distracted me. >She's very . . . fit. :~) The fact that I've stopped watching _Mutant X_, despite the presence of Ms. Pratt in a lead role is a testament to just how colossal a failure that show is. :) ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. Young" Subject: [chakram-refugees] Pasadena Con VHS, Subtext ;) Haven't finished the entire tape of the Pasadena Con appearance by LL and ROC yet, but Sharon did a good job of editing it as far as I got (though the mic volumes for LL and ROC were *waaaay* too low), and I noticed local Hawai'i Xenites Celeste, Jim, and Celeste's mom, Elsie, right there in the front row, rabidly taking pics and getting *sooooo excited* (it was Jim's first con ;) )!!! ;=) *Soooo*, some local Hawai'i folks are *captured on video*! ;) Speaking of *somewhat famous*, I was contacted out of the blue by Kym Taborn of Whoosh!. Apparently, she can document that I was the first person on Arbiter's original mailing list (started back in 1995) who used the term "subtext" to mean X&G's relationship. Although I have absolutely no memory of this (CRS has definitely set in; I was probably commenting on the Advocate article in which the subtext was first brought up, and it's somewhat ironic because, although I'm not anti-subtext, I'm not exactly pro-subtext either), Kym claims I'm the one. ;) _So_, I'm only accepting sacrifices in _gold_. ;P *hahaha!* Just FYI, ;) - --Jackie ****************************************************** * Proud to have the same birthday as Lucy Lawless! * * * * "I think New Zealand geographically comes from * * ... Whether you remember it or not, it's still a cool thing. And Venator, IIRC, was the one who first coined the term "Xenite". She has appeaed on many tv shows including some made for tv specials by usa network and sci fi channel as well as 3rd rock from the sun and her dismal performance in Tracker. This is her 2nd appearance in playboy...she was in last year right after the darva conger issue and this year right after Jerri of survivor fame and geena nolan of sheena. Seems playboy is going with the flavor of the month women. BTW..WWF owns the names of the wrestlers and when they leave the name stays. Just like another female wrestler that appeared in playboy twice- Rena mero (sable). She cannot use that name since she isnt with WWF anymore. ========================================================= This has been a message to the chakram-refugees list. David Taylor was also better than I remembered - not overly cute and not obnoxiously smart. He did have Xena's eyes but I don't think he had Borias's mouth (also just watched Sin Trade over the holidays). Anyway the actor who played Dagnin was a hoot - very funny as he made a list and checked it twice about who he was about to destroy. Lucy is very good in this one. Her scene where she give Solon to Kliapius is very touching and superior to the version in Past Imperfect. Lucy underplayed Xena's distress perfectly (I thought she overacted in the second version). Also this scene is mirrored in the finale shoot of this episode as she once again walks away from her son. Overall I think LL brings a touching vulnerability to to Xena - it is perhaps the only time in the series that Xena actually runs from her adversey - her ten yearold son scares her speechless. Gabrielle doesn't do much in this episode, however, there is a lot of irony in the scene where Gabrielle berates Xena for abandoning Solon even for his own good. A year later Gabrielle will abandon her own daughter in order to save her - much as Xena did ten years ago. A parrelle that I don't remember anyone picked up on at the time and becomes even more powerful when the two abandon children meet up in Maternal Instincts and both mothers come to grips with the consequences of their decisions concerning their children. Remember Nothing introduces Lyceus - Xena's beloved brother. A nice bit casting - Lyceus has the same coloring as Gabrielle and even has her enthusiastic personality. You now can see why Xena is so taken with Gabby in the beginning of the series - she reminds her of her brother so it becomes very understandable why she allowed the chatty kid to tag along with her in the first place. ROC does a nice job as the cynical slave that Gabby becomes without Xena to save her. When Gabrielle kills Mezantes there is a malicious satisfaction about it that forces Xena to return to the present. It isn't just that Gabrielle kills - it is that she enjoyed the kill that horrorifies Xena. That's it for now.
