I know this is not exactly a Xena related topic, but I just thought I would share it will you folks in case someone knows how to stop it should it happen again. Is this person on this list, I wonder? Lee's talked about a Bruce Interview. TEXena's talked about The History Channel....mine was just a Humor download.....MP3.scr.....whatever the heck *that* is. I am just glad AOL doesn't automatically download things as soon as I open en e-mail. Ok nuff of that. I hope it doesn't become a regular occurrence. They probably kept reading how much everyone wanted this tape, especially those that didn't shell out mucho $$$ in May to be there in person. I was there in May but I wanted the tape as a momento of that wonderful Sunday afternoon. They probably figured with that much fan excitement and anticipation for the tape, we'd pay anything for it. As I was excitedly cutting and pasting the link to go to their website to read about it, I was pondering how much it was going to cost. I thought perhaps $19.99 or perhaps as high as $29.99 (which I already thought would be high for a video). Then I saw it was $37.95!. With shipping it's $40+! I was prepared to purchase it last night until I saw the cost. That high pricetag stopped me cold. I haven't ruled out the purchase yet but I'm going to have to think long and hard about it now. I love ROC and I want that appearance on tape but $37.95 + Shipping?! It's not like I'll go broke if I buy it but it's the principle of the thing. It's like they keep raising the prices to see how high they can go before they break us. Geez, will the next tape they sell be $50?! Debbie Gabsfan@aol.com "I'll rise, but I refuse to shine." Talk about fleecing the fans. I've always been one to give Creation the benefit of the doubt in most things, but this is beyond my capacity for understanding. I think the price is not out of line for a special interest tape. If you figure into the cost of making the tape - paying your stars, probably USA Studios a licensing fee, the cost of taping, editing and producing the tape plus fixed costs and profit (Creations is a private business and does have to make a profit) the tape is pretty reasonable. Your customer base here is small maybe 3000 at most (with may 1/3 purchasiing the tape) so you have to charge more per tape. You can't compare tape like this to something like the Mummy that is sold at Wal-Mart for $15. A tape like that is massed produced and will sell tens of thousands of units. This tape probably won't be even duplicated until orders are recieved and when it is it will be a tiny run which will cost more than a large run. Next time you get a catalog from PBS take a look at the special interest tapes and will see pretty comparable prices. This is afterall a tape commorating a special event . Now let me digress for a moment about relative cost. I have read posts on another list where there are similar complaints about the cost. If you think about we all probably spend $40 a month on trifles anyway. If you drink bottle water, Starbuck coffee, vending machine soda (you realized at $.55 a can that comes to $13 a case for soda) you have easily spent the cost of the tape. So in my case I'll buy a case of soda at the supermarket stick under my desk at work and take a thermos of coffee in the morning for a month and my tape is paid for. And I am positive that there are many more fans that feel the exact same way. I was prepared to purchase the tape because the convention was on my birthday as well as me being a fan; then I saw the price and clicked off the link. I have afforded swords, plaques, musical globes, jackets, et at high prices from creation (wonderful staff and employees) but a video tape format collectable that will erode in time is where I draw the line. Even a 2-DVD boxed set collector's edition of a movie or event is cheaper and more durable. I will continue to purchase items from creation and get my fan clubs but I am very disappointed in the outrageous pricing of the video...considering the sentimental value it holds for many fans that miss the show and the actresses.
